A very mixed bag, Now 49 - for every Destiny's Child making a (somewhat delayed) bow in a Now poll, there's a Dido. For every Mis-Teeq, a Marti Pellow. A number of strong candidates should make for an intriguing poll.

The last Now poll was the closest for AGES, with Gorillaz finally beating Shaggy and Nelly F by one vote - "Clint Eastwood" is the lowest-rated winner ever, which makes up slightly for it being the first one I don't actually like.

Outkast even. Hey [livejournal.com profile] stevem78, has anyone ever hilariously mashed up Outkast and Cast? And do you have their home address?

Eve's debut single innit and Outkast never had a hit until this one, although all of their singles before this one were ace too.

I have a feeling these were both of their first hit singles in the UK, which would explain it. But Destiny's Child were on their third album before getting on - which is criminal.

I can assure you there is far, FAR blander in that vein (the stuff from their later far-less-rich-sounding albums for starters).

From: [identity profile] alexmacpherson.livejournal.com
1) One of the most important AND great pop groups the UK has ever produced, and the high-water mark of the 2-step crossover
2) Lickin' On Both Sides is a terrific album and I highly recommend it to everyone - there is even a GOTH track called 'Secrets Of The Night'
3) Alesha is back with a solo album this year, which will have Richard X doing stuff on it!
4) Alesha was gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous
5) So why are they languishing behind so much?

The comparison is very apt!

I consider Jess's finest moment to be his labelling of OutKast as the Flaming Lips for the some-of-my-best-friends-are-black set - I don't hate them BUT their rep is some quite dubious undertones to it. I find it extremely off-putting that the whitest commercial hip hop act got automatically accepted as the most 'innovative' hip hop act.

MY WHEATUS STORY.

Date: 2006-06-02 12:39 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] juror8.livejournal.com
I used to have a Saturday job in BhS back when I was doing my A-levels, working in the menswear/lighting department. That was a cracker. Anyway, one day, TWO celebrities came in. One was Christopher Lillicrap. The other was yr man from Wheatus. They'd played a gig in Northampton the night before, and they must have had a day off and stayed over. He comes in, unshowered and looking like a scuzz, surrounded by about 15-20 local youths acting as if he was Johnny Cash x Eazy-E. Anyway, he potters around for a bit, picks up one item, goes to the counter I'm on, puts some hiking socks down and goes "I am buying English socks".

That's my Wheatus story.

Actually, this Now is where the FT/ILM era really kicks off for me. I'm amazed that Romeo isn't doing better, in that light.

From: [identity profile] alexmacpherson.livejournal.com
I'm trying to get into the mindset of someone who consciously did not tick 'Romeo', and failing.

Then again there were people who did not tick 'Try Again' even when reminded of it. And some people who forgot 'Case Of The Ex' naming no names.
