As promised, the last Round 3 Pop Open fite is here. Go get the tracks at http://freakytrigger.co.uk/ft/2008/04/pop-open-week-2525/ and vote below, or hear them at http://poptimists.muxtape.com - which also contains ALL TWELVE Round 3 tracks in mixtape form for yr enjoyment. I think both these last tracks are pretty awesome so don't miss out.

[Poll #1168256]

Thanks very much to everyone who entered the Pop Open! If there's demand, I will run a final round of it for the winners of the various Round 3 fites (who include: [livejournal.com profile] mackromackro, [livejournal.com profile] lockedintheatti, [livejournal.com profile] stevem78, [livejournal.com profile] cis and [livejournal.com profile] hauntedballroom). If there's not, this is it. Audio Orgafun continues at Freaky Trigger in the Europop 2008 competition, and the League Of Pop may return in the Autumn or Winter.

Since there's no Podcast Panel until Wednesday, what better time to put up the two* remaining fites in the Pop Open!

How to play? Easy: go to http://freakytrigger.co.uk/ft/2008/02/pop-open-week-231/ and listen to the tracks. Then pick which from each pair (7 vs 8 and 9 vs 10) you prefer, and vote accordingly. EXCEPT - if you already know a track you cannot vote for it, you can only abstain in its favour.

The winners of these will go through to the final, which will be a special week of the Podcast Panel, voting on each of the finalists' songs in turn. They will join [livejournal.com profile] mackromackro, [livejournal.com profile] lockedintheatti and [livejournal.com profile] stevem78 (who knocked [livejournal.com profile] byebyepride out in the little-noticed Round 3.3 vote.

[Poll #1143529]

*there is a third one, but I never got a track from [livejournal.com profile] umlauts (and to be fair I wasn't exactly chasing one!): if he sends one in I will run it otherwise [livejournal.com profile] anatol_merklich gets a bye.

Thanks to cis, infov0re, hauntedballroom and w3ft for these tracks!

Details below the cut for those who want to know:

Reveals/Reviews )

You have another day to vote in this - poll (and voting details) here: http://community.livejournal.com/poptimists/499319.html (NB the number of votes is absolutely PITIFUL, not surprising since it went up a week before Xmas and was never mentioned again, but do try and vote!)
[identity profile] freakytigger.livejournal.com
After a somewhat epic gap - a new FITE! And this will be the last until the new year so you have plenty of time to listen to the tracks - http://freakytrigger.co.uk/ft/2007/12/pop-open-week-16/ - and consider.

As before you can VOTE for either track five or six, or ABSTAIN IN FAVOUR OF one or the other, since you're not allowed to vote for a track you know. I will post regular reminders over the Yuletide season.

[Poll #1108602]

Thanks to this week's competitors, [livejournal.com profile] byebyepride and [livejournal.com profile] stevem78.

There will be the final Pop Open post of the year up tomorrow with TWO duels, but a quick RESULTS post of the last one.

The Kasia Stankiewicz track beat the Stars one, though it was a bit tighter than the first Round 3 bout. Congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] lockedintheatti who is through to the next round. Commiserations to [livejournal.com profile] piratemoggy who is OUT.
[identity profile] freakytigger.livejournal.com
Here's what these two tracks were (hear them at http://freakytrigger.co.uk/ft/2007/12/pop-open-week-151/)

Reveals and Reviews )

You can still vote, and indeed should still vote, in the poll: http://community.livejournal.com/poptimists/485388.html - don't be swayed by my reviews.

And while you're at it go and do the year-end one too: http://community.livejournal.com/poptimists/490362.html

There's another Pop Open ready to roll tomorrow, and I'll announce the results of this one. It's fair to say this will not "all be over by Christmas", specially as I'm still waiting on a few songs.
[identity profile] freakytigger.livejournal.com
This round sees [livejournal.com profile] lockedintheatti and [livejournal.com profile] piratemoggy send their songs into a Robot Wars style ring. Except without house robots (if we did have house robots they would be Daft Punk).

Hear the songs here: http://freakytrigger.co.uk/ft/2007/12/pop-open-week-151/

And then vote. You have four voting options:

Voting fannydangle )

[Poll #1100226]

Meanwhile the first person to go through to the finals is [livejournal.com profile] mackromackro, whose track "But" by Kumi Kuma beat the Max'C track [livejournal.com profile] credoimprobus submitted. Well done him and he can start thinking about the WINTER track for the next round.

Next up: [livejournal.com profile] stevem78 vs [livejournal.com profile] byebyepride
[identity profile] freakytigger.livejournal.com
My intention of posting another fite on Friday collapsed because i. I took a day off and found that ii. My home internet was bolloxed. I will post one this afternoon. Meanwhile the voting deadline on fite #1 has been postponed until tomorrow noon, and here are the reveals/reviews:

Spoilers )

Hear the tracks here: http://freakytrigger.co.uk/ft/2007/11/pop-open-week-141/ (moggy - and anyone else who can't join in - they'll still be up on the FT server for a good long while)

And go here to vote: http://community.livejournal.com/poptimists/482068.html - I'm not copying in the poll because you would miss out on all those lovely complex abstention rules.
[identity profile] freakytigger.livejournal.com
OK - here's where things get a tiny bit more complicated.

Round 3 of the Pop Open involves 6 one-on-one knockout competitions between anonymised tracks submitted by the competitors.

As before, you can't vote for a song you already know. BUT if you know one song and hate the other, you don't have to vote for that. You can ABSTAIN in favour of one song or the other and it doesn't matter if you know it or not.
If the votes are tied, I will count the abstentions - otherwise, they won't count.

Here's the simple bit - download or stream the songs here: http://freakytrigger.co.uk/ft/2007/11/pop-open-week-141/

And vote here:

[Poll #1096587]

(EDIT: "Abstain in favour of track #1" means you know track 1, but don't like #2 enough to vote for it. Or that you hate both of them but would mildly rather that the idiot responsible for #1 progress than the fool responsible for #2, I guess.)

You have until Monday lunchtime to vote. Reveals and reviews on Friday, when I'll also put up the second match, which is lockedintheatti vs piratemoggy.
[identity profile] freakytigger.livejournal.com
Results for the 00s group - good turnout and very close:

FIRST PLACE: NOZE - "Remember Love" (8 first place votes, 35% of total points) - [livejournal.com profile] w3ft WINS.

SECOND PLACE: PENDULUM - "Hold Your Colour" (7 first place votes, 28% of total points) - [livejournal.com profile] piratemoggy QUALIFIES.

THIRD PLACE: RISKAY - "Smell Yo Dick" (6 first place votes, 23% of total points) - [livejournal.com profile] alexmacpherson is OUT.

FOURTH PLACE: GLASS CANDY - "Candy Castle" (1 first place vote, 14% of total points) - [livejournal.com profile] kill_yr_idols is OUT.

Congrats and commiserations to the excellent competitors.

The 3rd round will start later this week with [livejournal.com profile] mackromackro vs [livejournal.com profile] credoimprobus - both have got me their tracks, as have [livejournal.com profile] infov0re and [livejournal.com profile] byebyepride: thanks to all.

I need tracks, in MP3 format, no theme, pick anything you like, from [livejournal.com profile] w3ft, [livejournal.com profile] hauntedballroom, [livejournal.com profile] lockedintheatti, [livejournal.com profile] piratemoggy, [livejournal.com profile] cis, [livejournal.com profile] stevem78, [livejournal.com profile] umlauts and [livejournal.com profile] anatol_merklich - I will email to remind later in the week. Tracks to leagueofpop@gmail.com please!

I'll be moving through the third round at a fair clip. Winners of the 3rd round bouts will then have a very brief time to submit a track for the 4th round, where the theme is WINTER (including Christmas or not, as you wish). I'll probably do that as one big batch of six. The theme for the final will be VICTORY.

[Poll #1092507]

And then it's on to ROUND 3! These are a series of unthemed - i.e. you can pick anything you like - one-on-one contests, which I will be putting out at a fair clip I hope. I will put the fites up in the order I get both tracks, so send one to leagueofpop@gmail.com ASAP (not counting the 2 qualifies from the 00s group, unless they're specially confident innit) MP3 format please!

FITES will be as follows - this may or may not affect yr choice of track.

The much delayed NOUGHTIES GROUP in the Pop Open. I'll be doing reveals for this on Friday and closing date for voting is Monday.

Tracks are available to stream here: http://freakytrigger.co.uk/ft/2007/11/the-pop-open-week-14/

In my humble opinion at least three of these are belters (I'm not saying which) so whether you are a louche pop open regular or a blushing poll virgin this is one to participate in. Remember you can't vote for any tracks you knew already!

[Poll #1092507]

Thanks to alexmacpherson, kill_yr_idols, piratemoggy and w3ft for these tunes.
[identity profile] freakytigger.livejournal.com
Right! After rather a long polling time here are the 90s group results!

FIRST PLACE: Alison Hinds and Square One - "Iron Bazodee" (6 first-place votes, 38% of total points) - [livejournal.com profile] lockedintheatti WINS.

SECOND PLACE: Me Phi Me/Jeriko One - "HereWECome" (8 first-place votes, 35% of total points) - [livejournal.com profile] credoimprobus QUALIFIES.

THIRD PLACE: Souls Of Mischief - "Disishowedo" (2 first-place votes, 15% of total points) - [livejournal.com profile] mcarratala is OUT.

FOURTH PLACE: Laurent Garnier - "Virtual Breakdown" (1 first-place vote, 13% of total points) - [livejournal.com profile] katstevens is OUT.

Congrats, commiserations and sorry for the wait. I will put the 00s group up tomorrow, tho I may need someone to convert a M4A file into MP3 if I am too dense to work out how to do it myself...
[identity profile] freakytigger.livejournal.com
Sorry for the delay on these reveals and reviews for the Pop Open Nineties group! Work went a bit crazy at the end of last week and then my home interwebs fell over. The deadline for voting is, plainly, NOT this morning, but will now be tomorrow lunchtime.

Reveals and reviews for the four Eighties entries in the Pop Open. Good voting turnout in this group - the decade has you motivated! Voting still open until Monday lunchtime and the poll is below a cut:

Tracks are here: http://freakytrigger.co.uk/ft/2007/10/pop-open-week-12/ (I never did the zipfile - does anyone actually mind this?)

Reviews )

[Poll #1072847]
[identity profile] freakytigger.livejournal.com
Eighties! We're living in the Eighties! Four tracks available at http://freakytrigger.co.uk/ft/2007/10/pop-open-week-12/ in streamed form. My PC was erratic last night so I wasn't able to put them up as a zipfile - I will sort this out tonight.

Anyway, give them a listen, decide which you like best, vote below. This poll will run until next Monday lunchtime.

[Poll #1072847]

Thanks to the four contestants, though I've forgotten who one of them is so I won't name names.
[identity profile] freakytigger.livejournal.com
Here are the results for the 70s group - turnout down a bit in part because of the shortened voting time I guess (and relative lack of reminders). Still a close group though (well, past the clear winner)! Congratulations to the qualifiers, commiserations to the losers, thank you all for playing. 80s up tomorrow (if my PC is working).

FIRST PLACE: "Move Me No Mountain" by Dionne Warwick (9 first-place votes, 38% of total points) - [livejournal.com profile] mackromackro WINS!

SECOND PLACE: "Nice Mover" by Gina X Performance (5 first-place votes, 24% of total points) - [livejournal.com profile] anatol_merklich QUALIFIES!

THIRD PLACE: "I Can't Stand My Baby" by The Rezillos (4 first-place votes, 19% of total points) - [livejournal.com profile] lisa_go_blind is OUT!

FOURTH PLACE: "The Ballad Of Arivederci" by Kavaret (2 first-place votes, 19% of total points) - [livejournal.com profile] mcatzilut is OUT!

Moar news about the third round: as I said before, it'll be a series of one-on-one votes, and these will be freestyle, i.e. NO THEME - submit anything you like. The details of who is 'battling' who will be revealed after the 00s group finishes.
[identity profile] freakytigger.livejournal.com
*actually, being rather good in the seventies.
