A very mixed bag, Now 49 - for every Destiny's Child making a (somewhat delayed) bow in a Now poll, there's a Dido. For every Mis-Teeq, a Marti Pellow. A number of strong candidates should make for an intriguing poll.

The last Now poll was the closest for AGES, with Gorillaz finally beating Shaggy and Nelly F by one vote - "Clint Eastwood" is the lowest-rated winner ever, which makes up slightly for it being the first one I don't actually like.

I thought at the time, and still think now, that this was a really fabulous, exciting time for the charts - loads of singles bending pop in exciting directions - Wheatus, Destiny's, Outkast, Eve, Mis-Teeq, Basement Jaxx. It seemed to offer the perfect response to various broadsheet bores who claimed that pop had no new ideas, no characters, no style...

...which makes it a bit baffling to me that S Club 7's serviceably jolly disco pastiche is so many people's absolute favourite!

Haha there is an amazing mash-up of that and 'Billie Jean' which takes the dancefloor power of both and TREBLES IT.

don't stop is beyond aces. their best, obv, but it's in that pop pantheon innit.

The one really great part is the vocoded "Don't stop movin to the S CLUB BEAT" - everything else is kind of meh songwise, and the Billie Jean-ness gives it enough kick to work.

no, all the hooks man, the string stabs in the chorus, the bridge, singing bird's best performance, it all works so well. it's their dancing queen.

'Dancing Queen' not as good as everyone says, either.

I do agree with everything you say, 'Don't Stop Movin' is brilliant, but it pales next to the I-AM-BEYONCÉ-HEAR-ME-ROAR of 'Survivor'.

Yeah, I was expecting it to get a load of ticks (and will reinstate my ticky too for honesty) - it's the sort of record few could dislike. I'm just astonished that in this field it's so many people's pick for best.

Yes - this for me sums up my feelings towards the Sclub. They're a lovable national institution with some fun songs, of which this is the funnest and best, but I'd never go: OMG AMAZING!!!!! the way I would for DC/Mis-Teeq/Basement Jaxx.

Hang on please to take Wheatus out of that list!!!!
