OK - here's where things get a tiny bit more complicated.

Round 3 of the Pop Open involves 6 one-on-one knockout competitions between anonymised tracks submitted by the competitors.

As before, you can't vote for a song you already know. BUT if you know one song and hate the other, you don't have to vote for that. You can ABSTAIN in favour of one song or the other and it doesn't matter if you know it or not.
If the votes are tied, I will count the abstentions - otherwise, they won't count.

Here's the simple bit - download or stream the songs here: http://freakytrigger.co.uk/ft/2007/11/pop-open-week-141/

And vote here:

[Poll #1096587]

(EDIT: "Abstain in favour of track #1" means you know track 1, but don't like #2 enough to vote for it. Or that you hate both of them but would mildly rather that the idiot responsible for #1 progress than the fool responsible for #2, I guess.)

You have until Monday lunchtime to vote. Reveals and reviews on Friday, when I'll also put up the second match, which is lockedintheatti vs piratemoggy.

So if I abstain in favour of a track, it means I don't like that track?

The opposite innit? "Abstain in favour of #1" means "I know and like #1 and hate #2"?

Tom I just sent you my track.

I like both of these so choosing is tough. I think Track 2 just gets it by a nose for that subtle nod to Nomad's 'I Wanna Give You Devotion' or whatever that also got the sax riff from.

fyi, if anyone is interested in a non-squashed version of the song I submitted after the voting ends, contact me.

(This isn't a veiled complaint by any means. I've noticed the compression issues with the player for a while, but no one seems to mind it, it seems.)

I've listened about 12 times to each and I still can't make up my mind.

Yes this was rly hard. I liked both, but they fill completely different pop wants somehow, so the one I didn't vote for may just have been unlucky with when I sat down to listen properly.

dammit i am not going to have internets for my fite :( oh well saves worrying about it i suppose [nb: don't feel this means it should be put back or owt, would rather get it out of the way when i can't see it]

due to bt fascism i haven't heard either of these tracks, can someone save them somewhere so I can get them when/if they ever fix my phoneline? obviously i [DAMN YOU UNIVERSITY COMPUTER WHY WILL YOU NOT RECOGNISE THE SHIFT KEY IN CONJUNCTION WITH LETTERS HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO WRITE AN ESSAY LIKE THIS AND FURTHERMORE WHAT KIND OF KEYBOARD MADNESS GENERATES THAT EFFECT HURRAH FOR CAPSLOCK] won't be able to vote but would like to hear them still, ditto for [livejournal.com profile] lockedintheatti's track and any others that follow in my broadband drought, although obv. i have mine somewhere in the ruinous innards of my computer.
