For the second Now running, Girls Aloud find themselves in second place, this time by one vote to Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me A River". They get a third shot in the Now 56 poll, covering the end of 2003 - and Justin's back too, though it may well be that neither of them wins it.

Good times, bad times? You decide.

Fatman Scoop composed this track in order to make enough money to put his little brother through college. Fun fact for you there.

Stacie Orrico

From: [identity profile] alexmacpherson.livejournal.com
I have heard the sampler of her new album. It's not very good.

'Stuck', however, is one of the finest pop songs EVAH and if it weren't for Lumi would have been a runaway winner for me. My favourite bit is right at the end, the Max Martin-style backing vox coming in just once as the song finally admits to itself that it isn't an Avril-esque rocker after all, it is pop through and through: "don't - know - what - to - DO! I'm stuck on you!"

I (l) Stacie O, "Stuck" is amazing for how it combines that kinda Max Martin laboratory pop with a kind of... I mean, you know more about R&B than me but it sounds kinda She'kspere (or whatever he was called), a real retro late 90s feel.

Also, the lead single from her new album reminds me of that Shaznay single that went wood.

Also being criminally overlooked

From: [identity profile] alexmacpherson.livejournal.com
Liberty X's 'Jumpin' is a really superb example of the fizz-crash-bang hypercuberpop which was so in vogue this year, it's all broken machine beats and hyped-up super-banging robovox and is superb.

There are several songs that I can't imagine not ticking, you would have to be inhuman to think 'Crazy In Love' or 'LA Ex' or 'Superstar' or 'Finest Dreams' don't qualify as any good at all, yet they are not getting 100% which I find CURIOUS.

Again you may be seeing racism where simple ignorance lies - for example, I've never knowingly heard Finest Dreams.

Life Got Cold is easily the worst track on first GA album. I still don't understand why they didn't release Some Kind Of Miracle as a single instead.

That Busted track sounds like an Ash b-side. Very poor.

It is, however, only the fifth best solo Beyoncé single.

1. Baby Boy
2. Work It Out
3. Deja Vu
4. Naughty Girl
5. Crazy In Love
6. Check On It
7. Me Myself & I

I hated it at the time. Loathed it! Partly, I guess, because it was so ubiquitous - because I heard it again the other day, and completely adored it and couldn't understand why I'd ever hated it. It's so endearingly hopeful.

After the last Now, which I professed to be so good that I was considering going and buying a copy, this Now reaches new lows. I had NO TICKIES on parts 2 AND 3. This is BAD. If it wasn't for the presence of Beyonce, Sugababes, Rachel Stevens and Jamelia, I might well have not ticked anything AT ALL!

Rachel Rachel Rachel

From: [identity profile] blue-russian.livejournal.com
Once the Americans start voting, Beyonce will pull ahead of Rachel, which is tragic, because this is a wonderful track, and I say this as someone who quite enjoyed S Club and was initially put off by the new "sexy girl" image. An absolutely irresistible rhythm that still conjures up images of steam engines whereas The Other Song we'll meet later uses much more up-to-date technology.

This is true and unfortunate - however I am hoping that Lumidee (who no one else has mentioned! I have resorted to talking to myself about her at the top of the page) will pull ahead then.

Unfortunately Jamelia, who is already lagging behind when she should not be, will probably go further back :(

They are all miles better than bloody Crazy In bloody Love and that shit Timberlake number. YOU ARE ALL MENTALISTS AND ALSO QUITE INDIE NGAAAAAAAAAAARGH.
