For the second Now running, Girls Aloud find themselves in second place, this time by one vote to Justin Timberlake's "Cry Me A River". They get a third shot in the Now 56 poll, covering the end of 2003 - and Justin's back too, though it may well be that neither of them wins it.

Good times, bad times? You decide.

[Poll #765906]

(Also go and nominate for the the birthday poll if you haven't already...)

Someitmes I wonder if you people actually like pop at all. "4 Minute Warning" and "Mixed Up World" and "Maybe" and "Hold On Me" and "Surrender" are all BRILLIANTLY underrated singles, and ALSO "Under The Thumb" is Amy's best.

They are all miles better than bloody Crazy In bloody Love and that shit Timberlake number. YOU ARE ALL MENTALISTS AND ALSO QUITE INDIE NGAAAAAAAAAAARGH.

I'm surprised that 'Maybe' isn't getting very many ticks - especially as the inferior 'Free me' did quite well last time! My theory is that no one knows that it is Bunton.

Crazy In Love and Rock Your Body are good as well though!

Amy Studt's best = still shit unfortunately. Where is the Avril?

Also the real undeserved losers are Stacie and Lumidee :(

I agree with you there, they are both stupendously good also! But I think Lumidee had some "cred". I actually did expect it to better. THe ones I mentioned I knew would get pasted (except "Maybe") but I kind of hoped.

As far as I can see it's the records with 'cred' (which is a v nebulous concept - cred with whom? I can think of more types of music fan for whom Lumidee would be disposable and have no cred than the reverse) which don't get ticks!

I'm 99% certain that if silly Emma had credited 'Maybe' to Emma Bunton, it would have had a v good showing.

I don't really like 'Hold On Me' though I did like the video a lot. I have antipathy towards the Ellis-Bextor woman generally. Javine is great though this is probably her worst solo single!

"Surrender" is no way Javine's worst solo single. Have you forgotten a little thing called "Touch My Fire"?

2003-2004 was a great time for low-selling boybands putting out AMAZING pop singles. "Hold On Me", "Hip To Hip" and "Dragostea Din Tei" probably being the holy troika.

Except obv "DDT" went on to sell a lot of copies even though they'd never been popular beforehand and V and Phixx got dumped, in Phixx's case because they only had one good song.

'Touch My Fire' was really quite good though.

No it wasn't. It didn't deserve to do quite as badly as it did in The Eurovision, but it in no way deserved to be anywhere near the winner's circle.

Maybe you're being too indie about pop!

(how does 'hold on me' go?)

It's incredibly gay and has popcorn noises in it. You would LOVE it!
