I am putting together a set of CDs to live with the DJ decks at Poptimism, so all DJs have permanent access to an emergency (and quite comprehensive) library of the decade's "big tunes". ("big" defined as likely to get a crowd moving at Poptimism)

My question is: who is NOT on this list of artists who has made a banging record in the 00s that should be in the permanent armoury of our club night? I feel I'm weak on the mid-decade where I seem not to have been paying as much attention. Also some subgenres aren't very well represented (does metal do "bangers"?)
My other question is: the 00s - awesome OR WHAT?

Date: 2008-08-10 06:28 pm (UTC)Bangin' 00's metal, possibly suitable for poptimists:
The Rasmus- In The Shadows, No Fear
Dragonforce- general back catalogue post 2000 but Through The Fire And Flames is probably the srs banger innit, if a bit long
Maz Manson- Disposable Teens/The Fight Song/Mobscene/This Is The New Sh!t/Etc.
Linkin Park's first album is full of quality pop bangers, too, although it vaguely pains me to admit that 'In The End' (which I've never liked much) is probably the bangingest
Are Vampire Weekend srsly a poptimist banger?

Considered NORE, and several other hip-hop: to my eternal regret, hip-hop doesn't seem to get the Poptimist crowd going, with the exceptions of obvious big old school hits by De La, Dre, Snoop etc.

Kate Nash - who is responsible for this?
Re: Forgotten artists and queries
Date: 2008-08-10 11:03 pm (UTC)Herc and LA yes. Pussycats, Janet, Mariah need relistening so I can pick a song. A couple of your others are already in there now. My feeling is there's not much point in putting mnml on there - the people who want to play and dance to it will usually want fresher stuff I'd think?
Most of your picks are suffering because of the shameful commercial drop-off in hip-hop in this country though.
