I am putting together a set of CDs to live with the DJ decks at Poptimism, so all DJs have permanent access to an emergency (and quite comprehensive) library of the decade's "big tunes". ("big" defined as likely to get a crowd moving at Poptimism)

My question is: who is NOT on this list of artists who has made a banging record in the 00s that should be in the permanent armoury of our club night? I feel I'm weak on the mid-decade where I seem not to have been paying as much attention. Also some subgenres aren't very well represented (does metal do "bangers"?)

My other question is: the 00s - awesome OR WHAT?

yeh sorry i was being a bit harsh. there's so many artists here that many of them can go months (or indeed years) without getting played. really i was just seeing names like Sweet Female Attitude and other one hit wonder types and as fab as they are thinking 'O rly?' but this didn't stop me listing many more equivalent 'great but risky as not widely recognised' type pop hits hem hem

i dunno if i'll ever do a laptop set but at times like this i'd srsly consider it (as long as you have backup CDs on standby of course)

I've heard 'Flowers' played out at a huge variety of nights and it ALWAYS gets dancefloor love because it is THE BEST SONG OF THE DECADE!

Again posted my list before scrolling down to Frank's but Mya and Crime Mob seconded. People who don't dance to hip-hop are not people who should be pandered to.

'I've heard 'Flowers' played out at a huge variety of nights and it ALWAYS gets dancefloor love because it is THE BEST SONG OF THE DECADE!'

lucky you - never heard it out anywhere

i like it of course but refuse to accept something released in january 2000 as best song of the decade :)

DMX album And Then There Was X was released December 21, 1999, but "Party Up" wasn't a single until 2000.
