Argh, hardest canon ever!

BTW, Radiccio EP was the one with the original version of Halcyon.

Only five! That is cruel.

I got kicked out of an RE class in Year 9 for playing the intro to Satan* through mini speakers at the back of the class.

*although, isn't that whole intro nicked off a Butthole Surfers song?

Drugs snobbery revealed

Basically I knew lots of people who loved Orbital but never took E, and no-one who liked non-Clouds Orb without the help of dope.

Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld is one of the best records ever made. I'm not saying I've never smoked weed, mind you, but I liked the Orb for about 2 years before I did!

I went to see the Orb in Brighton in the '90s without the help of artificial stimulants of one kind or another.

Especially 'Orblivion'. (which was, obv, the goff choice, being somewhat, er, 'darker')

The hit single version of Perpetual Dawn is a STINKER - it has the woman going "Perpetual Dawn....infinite sunriiiiise" inna Bodyform style.

(The album version is totally awesome obv and an easy tick)

Easiest canon ever - the five current leaders are obvious stand-outs
(unless there are awesome tracks on those anonymous-sounding Orbital EPs I'm overlooking or something)

I ticked "Satansatansatansatan (live)" rather than the other Satan since that's the version I own.
From: [identity profile] freakytigger.livejournal.com
1. 3D Space Chess on TOTP (thanx poll for reminding me of this)
2. "Clitus, I'm BORED. What PLAYTHING can you offer me today?"
3. Their "huge ever growing..." title has become 1x grebt MEME
4. Explaining that their album title Live Orb 93/Evil Bro 39 was a reference to H1TLER!
5. Finding said live album on a grumpy pub landlord's jukebox that summer and putting an entire 70 minute ambient disc on for a quid.

Orbital's fifth album, 'The Middle Of Nowhere' is seriously underrated, and I still can't quite believe they never released a single from it. Jeez, they even had Alison Goldfrapp guesting on vocals, and this was in 1999, years before Goldfrapp would hit it big with Black Cherry.

I'd have voted for 'I Don't Know You People' if it had been released and thus included in this canon.

Date: 2007-08-03 01:10 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bengraham.livejournal.com
Oh, I see, you messed up the canon, and they did actually release two singles from the album, 'Style' and 'Nothing Left' (which was the one featuring Alison G). Still, they should've released 'I Don't Know You People'.
I actually only got into Orbital through 'Middle of Nowhere' and then went back and took the history class.

How did I not know/realise that the "Huge Ever Growing Brain" title is a reference to the episode of BL4KE'S S3V3N that starred N1CK D4STOOR'S DAD!!!

are you sure. isn't 'Ultraworld' an ep of Blakes 7 which has a giant brain in it - but that's not the one with Sam D in it.

Re: religious experience with Halcyon, I mean that everyone seems to have known it when it came out and heard it occasionally since but there was a sort of apocalyptic moment when it got played by Scott Mills or somebody when we were all about eighteen (ie: two or three years ago) and SUDDENLY WE ALL KNEW WHAT IT WAS. Evidently it embedded rather deeply in everyone's consciousnesses because we were all about 5 or 6 when it came out, obviously. It was just strange that no one had managed to adequately describe it to anyone else enough to track it down but everyone and I mean EVERYONE knew it.

And obviously also that none of us had ever acquired the Human Traffic soundtrack but that is just one of those things.

I find The Orb faintly annoying but this is largely due to ARGH BLOODY CLOUDS, which is just dreadful in every way.

Orb: Liked "Little Fluffy Clouds" but failed to like anything after that, despite many attempts.

Orbital: As usual, I totally missed out on them - heard "The Saint" single and was about as impressed as I was with the Adam Clayton+Larry Mullen version of teh M:I theme. Lumped them in with Orb as another dance band I just didn't get. Then heard their last single, whatever it was, and really loved it, and went back and found all kinds of good stuff.
