THE POP OPEN: Group D - MONEY
Jun. 19th, 2007 11:07 amFive tracks for you on the theme of Money. You don't have to judge songs by how they fit the theme, just pick the two you like most - BUT! you can't vote for one you already know ("know" doesn't include "know a remix of" or "know a version of" or "know what it must be but haven't actually heard it before"). You don't have to use both your votes - you can just use one.
And you don't have to be a player to vote - anyone can!
The songs are all in a zipfile here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/ia51px (23 Mb)
And you can get them streamed here: http://freakytrigger.co.uk/ft/2007/06/pop-open-week-2/ (NB if you just hit play you get Track 5, not Track 1, for some reason, so make sure you hit each play track link separately) ALSO: if possible download the zipfile - the streaming tracks are on FT's bandwidth :)
Here's the poll:
[Poll #1005867]
You have until 12noon (UK time) on Monday next week to vote - revelations as to what each track is will be on Friday. I don't think any of them are by Keith Allen this week. Don't forget to vote - I'm sure we can improve on the total of 24 voters for the Sex group!
And last but not least - what would YOU have submitted?

Date: 2007-06-19 10:35 am (UTC)I would have been tempted for this one to submit something that sounds incredibly expensive, if I could think of such a track.

First thoughts
Date: 2007-06-20 06:00 pm (UTC)Track #5 my favourite on first play. Wasn't keen on track #4, although hard to explain why (other than "not reggae enough" ha!).
Actually, for all the talk of mind-melds above, I think these five songs are quite varied in style.

Date: 2007-06-20 06:23 am (UTC)willie hutch - if you ain't got no money (you can't get no honey)
junior m.a.f.i.a. - get money
the dirtbombs - broke in detroit (again)
My choice
Date: 2007-06-20 11:27 am (UTC)"Pinstripe Rebel" by Would-Be-Goods
"Heartache" by my lovely STUMP (which they once played using the "Satisfaction" lyrics instead in a Peel session)
unless I picked some Grebt Straightforward Norwegian Rock'n'Roll by Jokke & Valentinerne (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jokke_%26_Valentinerne), who sung lots about being broke.
stevem otm, ace set this I think.
