Five tracks for you on the theme of Money. You don't have to judge songs by how they fit the theme, just pick the two you like most - BUT! you can't vote for one you already know ("know" doesn't include "know a remix of" or "know a version of" or "know what it must be but haven't actually heard it before"). You don't have to use both your votes - you can just use one.

And you don't have to be a player to vote - anyone can!

The songs are all in a zipfile here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/ia51px (23 Mb)

And you can get them streamed here: http://freakytrigger.co.uk/ft/2007/06/pop-open-week-2/ (NB if you just hit play you get Track 5, not Track 1, for some reason, so make sure you hit each play track link separately) ALSO: if possible download the zipfile - the streaming tracks are on FT's bandwidth :)

Here's the poll:

[Poll #1005867]

You have until 12noon (UK time) on Monday next week to vote - revelations as to what each track is will be on Friday. I don't think any of them are by Keith Allen this week. Don't forget to vote - I'm sure we can improve on the total of 24 voters for the Sex group!

And last but not least - what would YOU have submitted?

I hate reggae.

I might have submitted "Money" by the Ragga Twins, which isn't reggae but the word is kind of similar.

I'm sure I've seen you praise reggae songs before. Why on earth do you hate it?

Only if Ace of Base counts as reggae.

I just can't stand the sound of it, for the most part. Mostly the singers, actually, but also its distinctive rhythm makes me think of the sort of cunt students that used to congregate in the next town over from where my parents live every year for a folk festival with dreadlocks and that.

Actually, no, I've always rather hated reggae, even before unfortunate cultural associations.

Morrissey and J Harris hate reggae = MY POINT PROVEN as I do hope neither of them would be allowed into Poptimists

(wasn't Morrissey a massive actual racist? like, said dodgy racial things?)

Oh I know the sort. They are terrible people yes but bear in mind this is the same reason that John Harris hates reggae.

Yes, but I want to point out that reasonable people can hate reggae.

I mean, some people say "I like everything except country", and that's fine. And some people sy "I like everything except metal" and that's fine. But once on ILM I said I liked everything except reggae, and people said they felt SORRY FOR ME for missing out on such great stuff. Wankers. I don't want pity, I love so much music from all sorts of genres, msising out on reggae doesn't hurt my life.

And country and metal can be awesome!

(Actually, I hate folk for the most part too. So not just reggae, then)

I hate country and metal :D

But not to do with vile country/metal fans I know - I don't know any country fans, and all the metal fansd I know are lovely & surprisingly fabulous people - but because I can't stand the sounds.

I have to admit 99% of dancehall makes me want to hurt people as well. I can see why you hate metal, but I think that country can be so good and I wish I had more time to investigate it further.

Country's clearly a situational thing for me, b/c I really like tinges of country in other genres, but something about the real thing feels a bit too alien, in a naff way.

I don't think I've ever heard a dancehall song I dislike. I mean...this music just goes SO WELL with the summer! Have you ever heard any Ce'Cile? I think you'd like her.

I've heard one Ce'Cile song. It was not bad. I actually don't mind the ones that samply 90s DANCE CLASSIX, and I admit that I am yet to her an Aldo Ranks song I dislike. (I've heard four that I do like). But generally, I find it to be an oppressive sounding genre.

Also, it's cold, wet and RAINY here, and has been for two weeks, so summer fnar.

Oppressive? But it's so light, and danceable, and fun to sing along to. I find METAL oppressive!

Oh yeah it's not summer down there is it. Not that I can tell here, we're going through all four seasons each day it seems like.

Well, I can't explain MY prejudices! At any rate, I am fascinated to know where I praised a reggae song. Surely not! I am worried by this, my world is crashing down with the thought that perhaps I came home drunk one early morning, logged onto ILM and went LOL OMG I LOVE REGGAE.

I think it's possible that this set is making me hate reggae (and not 'cause I think the songs are bad, but because I didn't want the thing to be all reggae).

You do know some country fans! Me and Tim, for instance, are both major country fans.

I don't think of you as country fans, I'd forgotten! Though I probably meant country fans, as in involved in the country scene (IS there a country scene in London?).
