Date: 2007-02-06 12:32 pm (UTC)Decisions:
TLC is iconic, and not overplayed in the way G'n'R is, but "Sweet Child" is more liberating and joyful, and I'm in a good mood today.
Daft Punk is my favourite single ever blah blah. I can see it falling to the Smiths tho.
Britney v Madonna - very hard. "Vogue" is M. at her most regal and wittiest whereas "Oops" is a gauche, but seriously charming, re-run of "...Baby". Typing this I can't even remember which I ticked!
"Say My Name" vs "Love Will": unlike some here I rly like "Love Will", but the Destiny's Child song covers kinda the same territory with so much more drama and heart (and the music's way more dynamic). Easy tick and I'd love to hear anyone's reasons for preferring JD here.

Date: 2007-02-06 02:02 pm (UTC)1. I was there (I dunno where I was when "say My Name" was a single, but not there)
2. The intro and the outro of LWTUA - two of the biggest rushes in pop

Date: 2007-02-06 12:37 pm (UTC)Trickier this as I can never decided whether Morrisey's moaning is perfectly suited to the drone underneath, or just childish whingeing. Benefit of the doubt here as this is the best Smiths song but DP have done much better.
Best Madonna song trumps 5th best Britney song.
Heard LWTUA *way* too many times. And put up with enough people on the dancefloor looking around quizzically for the first ten seconds going "What's this? Ohhhhhhh" even though its played EVERY WEEK argh.

Date: 2007-02-06 12:49 pm (UTC)Their videos are a different matter entirely - November Rain is magnificent. Shame about the song.

Date: 2007-02-06 01:13 pm (UTC)Axl's screwed up unwashed face and the horrible screeching that emanates from it is far from appealing. The rest of them aren't much better (Slash might as well be on Mars for all he adds to proceedings). There's a lesson there kids: don't be medical guinea pigs for cigarette companies.

Date: 2007-02-06 12:52 pm (UTC)No excuses for anyone ticking G'n'sodding'R over TLC, seriously. None whatsoever. One of the best singles ever versus one of the most atrocious.
I don't even like 'One More Time' but 'How Soon Is Now?' is disgusting. This is the first fight that I haven't actively thought either song was any good at all.
'Vogue' pwns all, 'Oops' isn't actually all that high in the Britney pantheon but I don't even think Britney's best would beat 'Vogue'. STRIKE A POSE, &c.
I have no idea how anyone with ears/soul/heart could pick Joy Division over Destiny's Child. The former is OK but seriously when do you EVER want to listen to it? The latter is heart-stoppingly brilliant and I want to listen to it RIGHT NOW.
Is this going to be a re-run of En Vogue v Nirvana? If so I think we should rename this community BORING ROCK CANONTIMISTS, and then send people to POP RE-EDUCATION CLASSES, which will include MAOIST SELF-DENUNCIATION.

Date: 2007-02-06 03:10 pm (UTC)Daft Punk vs How Soon Is Now is hard for me. Punk get it, because it's more danceable than HSIN by a country mile.
Oops... nope, don't like Oops very much. By contrast, Vogue is awesome. Easy tick.
Nope, don't like Say My Name one bit, and like Joy Division lots, so another easy tick.
I am sure voting like this practically disqualifies me. I mean, the reason I _like_ Generation Terrorists is that it all sounds like GNR. And Kiss. Healing power of Glam, etc.
