BLURILLAZ

With "Clint Eastwood" a front-runner in the Now poll, much recent talk of Britpop, and the daughter of Fat Les about to explode onto the national chart scene, what better time for the Canon to turn its fire on Blur, Gorillaz, and assorted side projects? Pick THIRTEEN of these singles and we'll see what wins. NB Graham Coxon's solo records have not been included because they're atrocious because the only hits were after he left the band so they don't count, plus I got bored of typing.

[Poll #739939]

If you are The Lex you are probably horrified by the exclusion of Coxon, no wait I mean by the indieness of it all, so here are the results of last week's Britney canon to soothe you:

1. ...BABY ONE MORE TIME (45 votes)
2. Toxic (44 votes)
3. Oops I Did It Again (41)
4. I'm A Slave 4 U (31)
5. (You Drive Me) Crazy (25)
6. Stronger (16)
7=. Born To Make You Happy (13)
7=. Boys (13)
9. Overprotected (11)
10. Everytime (10)

Worst song: Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know, which got one figleaf of a tick - well done [livejournal.com profile] kuutis!

Music Is My Radar, surely? Though Tender runs it close. And Parklife makes me want to inflict violence on pigeons.

A tick = I don't utterly despise it. Blur were one of the worst bands of the nineties and it's still a surprise to me how listenable some of the Gorillaz stuff is.

It's weird, isn't it? Gorillaz don't bother me the way Blur did.

I have several times heard a song I like and asked someone "What's this? It's got a good beat!" only to have them respond "It's off Gorillaz second album, it's called (name blocked out by passing train/trumpeting elephant/increasingly poor memory). So match these songs to those guest singers:

Feel Good Inc
DARE
Dirty Harry
El Manana/Kids With Guns

Shaun Ryder, Bizarre off D7, ???, ???

Dirty Harry - some rapper
El Manana/Kids With Guns - is there a guest rapper on these?

nothing on earth would make me buy blur stuff

Owning each of Britney's albums >>>> owning her Greatest Hits

The Greatest Hits has 'Do Somethin' which is fab BUT she has a ridiculously high number of amazing album tracks. Even the first album, which is entirely rubbish apart from the singles, is worth owning for the comedy of 'Email My Heart'.

There is surely no earthly way anyone could reach 13? I don't even mind Blur that much and my 10 ended with some severe barrel-scraping.

I don't think I voted for it though.

Is there any other band who when they are bad are really, really, REALLY vile and awful and disgusting - but who nevertheless have made some very good songs dotted seemingly at random amidst the HORROR of the rest?

The title is quite good. I've never heard it, but I can't help imagine it's three and a half minutes of three beer-gutted men snorting coke and being "un-PC".

'19-2000', probably because of silly nindie (or hip hop!) habit of not naming songs after the chorus - it is the one with the girl going "get the cool! get the cool shoeshine! na na na na na!"

I voted for 'Graham Coxon solo records' purely on the basis of Freaking Out which is better than any Blurillaz songs and also conveniently the only one I've heard.

I don't see how it's possible to like his solo stuff and NOT like anything else (unless you really REALLY hate Damon). It's really not that different from grunge-era Blur.
