A new Now poll a day early thanks to the world cup mix-up, Now 20 takes us into the second half of 1991. Notable by its absence is Bryan Adams, whose 16 weeks at #1 was smack in this 'catchment area' and no doubt priced him right out of the compilers' reach. Still, why worry when you have Julian Lennon and Glass Tiger? Note MUCH FUN had by the compilers with track order, especially the U2/PSB segue.

Now 19 was won by a single vote for Massive over the KLF - the cock-up with radio buttons thankfully happened with one of the worst track sequences we've yet seen though if you want to think Innuendo wuz robbed, don't let me stop you. Lots of stuff to talk about on this one so let's get on with it shall we?

[Poll #664430]

NB: "Full length version"?? They can't actually mean that, can they?

It was the Madonna version which made me realise that it had a decent tune!

It's just one of those songs which is always there (though not too much there as in the ways carsmile outlines)

"I know that you're in love with him cos I saw you dancing in the gym"

I can't tell if you're joking or not but isn't it GIN not gym? As in GIN BLOSSOMS (oh noes)

Anyway I hate 'American Pie' although the rockist in me grudgingly deems it to be 'well written' if far far far far too long

The Madonna cover is abysmal and her absolute nadir IMO.

Scare quotes do not a good argument make, Judge.

While Lenin read a book on Marx

Note: Lenin never actually read Marx himself, apparently, pop-pedant fans

those aren't scare quotes they're NORMNL quotes -- i am quotin
a. T.Lex
b. D.Maclean

(erm i am absolutely certain that lenin DID read marx -- maybe not eg grundrisse, which wz still unpublished notes, but w/o question the KAPITAL and the stuff on the Paris Commune, and lots more besides, inc.obv the manifesto)

Yes, but, Judge, D. Maclean says Lenin didn't read Marx.

The quotes are scary when JDD/Lord Sukrat does 'em!

"the jester sang for the king and queen, in a coat he borrowed from james dean" is WORSE.

also if this is the FULL version there are verses, like in the national anthem, that you have never heard (and are probably about killing scottishes)

I can see how that is a bad line when it is written down but it works brilliantly on a phonetic level! All those v sounds!
