Dizzee, Outkast, Xtina, Sean Paul and the Lil' Jon posse all through. I'm superbusy today so without further ado, on to heat #4!

  • You get SIX TICKS over the three bits of the poll, unless you played the investigation game on the previous heat and told us all your new favourite (and why). Put your new favourite in the box below and get an extra tick for the next heat - do this on five or more of the eight heats and get an extra nomination slot for 2004! (thx to [livejournal.com profile] credoimprobus for this suggestion)

  • The top five in each heat will go through to the next stage. Make sure you rep for your faves in the comments!

  • If you want to fill in the 'best song I only heard today' box later, change your vote (or tick too many by mistake), you can edit your votes by clicking on 'Poll #12345' then 'Fill Out Poll'.

  • You have until Tuesday lunchtime to vote

[Poll #1481587]

*Apologies to Nivea for me forgetting to re-sort the spreadsheet - 'Don't Mess With My Man' will go in the next heat.

Extra tick for this heat goes to [livejournal.com profile] koganbot.

I'd be very pleasantly surprised if this got through, but here goes - this is my nomination for this round, Violent Delight...

My contribution to this heat was Play's "I Must Not Chase the Boys", so for reference, here it is. Catchy pre-teen pop melody, with nice bouncy instrumentation and lyrics. I don't generally like Play, but this one is a personal favorite (so is "Disco Hippie"):

This video is ridiculous. It takes itself way too seriously.

Doing this 'deaf and blind' so to speak but this should be the club mix (or an extract thereof). One of the highlights of Tiga's DJ-Kicks mix:

If I find a better/longer version, will delete this and re-post.

For the record: I Luv You = totes my runner-up single of the year.

That said, everyone needs to listen to Wesley Clarke's It'll Be Okay! Lovely, warm comfort bosh, with great little repeating vocal collage woven through the track alongside the main vocal. (Here's a zshare backup as well if divshare gives anyone crap.)

Johnny Cash - Hurt (39)
5 (35.7%)

WTF?

And why are so many of you not voting for The Darkness?

Come on ppl, why are supposed 'poptimists' voting for a miserabilist dirge like 'Hurt', especially with all these great pop songs to choose from in this heat?

As I write, "In Da Club" is tied with The Darkness and The Caesars for fifth. Hmmmmmm.

(Of course, at the moment I've got The Caesars ticked too.)

Caesars being in this list is unfortunate. It's a great song, and it'll probably miss out. If it had been included in 2005, when it was actually a top 10 hit, on the other hand...

It's not often you'll catch me on this tip, but how has Girls Aloud's worst record by several country miles got more votes than Avril's best record by a similar margin?

Presumably because Girls Aloud at their worst are still more loved by Poptimists than Avril at her best!

Oh how he rocks, in Keds and tube socks

Love the Avril to bits, more than a couple of my ticks, if I thought it had a chance I'd have voted for it, but this was a tough heat and tacticality prevailed.

Oh I'd TOTALLY forgotten this one. I don't even like Avril tbh, but this one is a classic.

I FVCKING HATE 50 Cent and consider him a blight upon the musical landscape but let's be honest here: if you can listen to In Da Club and not find yourself vaguely swaggering and with a sudden desire for very expensive drinks then, well, you're probably more than a bit wrong.

This poll sees me ticking lots of people I don't normally like, for clear career-best tracks. Hmm.

C'mon, do I need to remind everyone how EARTH-SHATTERING this is? Still one of Dizzee's best ever.

Both "I Luv You" and "Leave Right Now" must get through. I'd probably have to abstain if they went head to head.
