Cheers erupt from the J-Lo fanclub as she squeezes into the final behind Outkast, Eve & Gwen, Missy and Mis-teeq. Sophie E-B on the other hand is wiping her tears on Dude from The Feeling's velvet jacket sleeve.

On to heat #6, which is absolutely banging in my opinion, but who will make it through?

not very poptimist, but one of my favourite JEW tracks.

I wish I'd thought to nominate 'Get It Faster' -this one is also acetastic tho. JEW = another one of those bands that's getting better as I age and stop thinking the lyrics are omgsorelevanttominelief.

Edit: Also, I think it is quite poptimist! It's got a dancefloor in the lyrics!

Yes, although I'm not a big fan of their work pre-Bleed American; Clarity just has the most horrible production on, and I've no idea why everyone's such a fan of Lucky Denver Mint.

This, though, is first year at University and is from a cracking album. Did I mention how good they are live? They're very good live.

Tbh I've never heard anything pre-Bleed American and thought it was their first album. *goes to get self a BE A REAL FAN icon*

For me it is my GCSEs, when I was very lonely and angry but used to have quite cheery moments to that and 'beautifulgarbage' whilst I was (SHAME ALERT) reading the Wheel Of Time instead of revising. Although that was 2002 so I was presumably being slow on the uptake. (and also at the time considered this very top secret shameful pop activity as opposed to hideous noises listened to the rest of the time)

Ah yes, I do like this track. Someone gave it to me on a compilation many years back, and I've played it rather too much really given I am not an emo teenager. However, it is rocking. I almost played it at the only Poptimism I've ever DJed at, I had it cued up and all, but then I lost nerve. Lex was on the dancefloor; it would have seemed rude.

Also, this was the track that was re-named after the 9/11 attacks. It was the title track from the album 'Bleed American'.

Other good JEW tracks:
- The Middle
- Pain
- Big Casino

Track, and, indeed, entire album; the album is now just self-titled. My copy still says "Bleed American", which is why I got it cheap.

Other recommendations - "Work", "Sweetness", "Electable", and "Just Tonight", the latter of which never gets the love it needs.

Oooh, 'Electable' - good call.

Also, 'Authority Song' would be the theme tune to my life if I had such a thing. Not lyrically but there's something about the tune.

I'm glad to see all this secret poptimist love for JEW. It almost makes up for the secret love for Fred Durst...

This may be the first I've ever heard this. It is cringe-worthily terrible for the first 40 seconds, my being unable to block out the lyrics no matter how I try, and the precisely prissy delivery to make sure we get them. But when the guitars roar in and the fellow starts yowling, this becomes hard to resist.
