Date: 2009-07-28 01:30 pm (UTC)'Slave' was huge at the time anyway, Britney hooking up with the Neptunes and ~casting off~ her virginal rep, and it's responsible for her most iconic live TV performance (the SNAKE). Nothing off this album slowed the Britney juggernaut at all. There was a lot more "Britney in decline" talk by the time 'Me Against The Music', off the next album, was released, but that was more due to the time off in between albums IIRC, and obv 'Toxic' firmly re-established her.
And then came the babies and the marriages and the drugs and the mental issues, and Blackout was right in the middle of that rather than a comeback from it, and I guess Circus is the real comeback except no one really likes it that much.
