Ladies and gents, it's time for 2001: A Poll Odyssey! Mumpop fans are wailing and gnashing their teeth at the news that two of the top three album artists of the year (David Gray and Robbie Williams) are nowhere to be found in these heats, and the third (Dido) just scraped in by the skin of her teeth (courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] justfanoe). Can teenpop, hiphop and chart bosh save the day? There's only one way to find out.

So let's get cracking with a high-charting heat - ten top 5 hits and three number ones. Happy ticking!

  • You get a maximum of TEN TICKS over the three bits of the poll. The top five will go through to the next stage.

  • If you want to change your vote (or tick too many by mistake), you can edit your votes by clicking on 'Poll #12345' then 'Fill Out Poll'.

  • UK chart placings given in brackets.

  • Rep for your favourites in the comments! Youtube embeds very welcome.

[Poll #1430999]

You have until next Tuesday lunchtime to vote.

That shoeshine song...it just...sends me into a rage. And as much as I hated it at the time, it now sounds like "iPod commercial" crystallized into its purest original form, like they've been taking little drops from this for years. It must not make it through.

So true. I keep waiting for someone to justify ticking it but not yet. "Damon make bleepy song" - this is a promising thing HOW exactly?

It must not make it through.

Honestly, it seems like most of my picks for 2000 - 2005 are going to be completely colored by nostalgia, because on its own merits, I probably don't like "19/2000," but I really can't tell because I remember my friend Jamie and I loving it and writing "GET THE COOL SHOE SHINE" on the covers of our textbooks in Russian class.

I probably do like "Because I Got High" on its own merits, but it's also getting a boost from the fact that it was really popular in my dorm freshman year of college.

You took Russian in high school? (Also I bet you just wrote it on the paper bag book cover of your textbook.) The reason I hate this song is because a friend of mine played it EVERY SINGLE DAY in his car on the way home from school. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

Yes. Four years. All I know how to say is "I don't know," "nothing," "post office," and "I'll get you, rabbit."

I can make really lovely traditional Easter eggs, though.
