Another Friday, another round of chart farts Pop Trumps!

Go here to read the rules, but it's easy really. Rate the pop act below in the various categories: 10 is the highest, 0 is the lowest, if you have zero clue then go for 5.

Today's contestants were doing a Top 50 Brilliant Boybands thing on Hits!TV the other night, and modestly only included 5 of their own songs! They also like pointing at things.

The part about Kevin is absurd, but I do think that the BSB are on the whole better than NSync. I mean NSync have what, "Bye Bye Bye", "It's Gonna Be Me", but then what? They have a lot more crap like "God Must Have Spent a Little More Time on You" and "Tearin Up My Heart" in their resume than BSB do.

Then what? "Pop." "Girlfriend." "Gone."

Really, all 'NSync has in the vein of "(God Must Have Spent) A Little More on Unnecessary Parentheses" and "Tearin' Up My Heart" is..."(God Must Have Spent)..." and "Tearin' Up My Heart." And I just fail to see how "Tearin' Up My Heart" counts as a negative when "Everybody (Backstreet's Back! [Oh, I Wasn't Aware They Had Gone])" doesn't -- "Everybody" had a better video, yeah, but what makes it a better song?

'NSync and BSB had the same ratio of Crap Ballads to Totally Awesome Dance-y Songs until 2001, at which point 'NSync did something really interesting (and, along with Pink, gave fellow teenpoppers like Britney and Christina a path for survival in the singer-songwriter wilderness) while BSB kept churning out the same old Crap Ballads without any Totally Awesome Dance-y songs to break the monotony. I can rarely tell the difference between most BSB songs ("Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely" is their only standout track), and I definitely don't know which came from which album -- they stuck to the formula with each album, whereas 'NSync improved upon it.

So basically, BSB have what, "Everybody" and "Show Me the Meaning..." but then what? (A bunch more of that, over and over again, is the answer.)

True! I guess it comes down to, I just like the songs that BSB did more than the songs that NSync did. I don't like "Girlfriend" or "Gone" or "Pop". I love "Shape of my Heart", "Larger than Life", "I Want it That Way", etc. Just how it is I suppose.

I know right, I loved them but BSB redefined fug even by the low standards of 90s boy bands.

They're all very date-rapey, except for Howie, who looks like the one who'll cry and rat them out in the last fifteen minutes of their Law & Order episode. (Or, if it's SVU: they all sexually assault That Blondish One Who Isn't Nick in the bathroom at their private school, because he is clearly too learning-disabled to tell on them.)
