Miss Trina! Should have been higher but at least there.

I thought Amy Winehouse would be higher, though I didn't think she'd be represented by 'Rehab' which is from well inside 2006 and feels much older. I was quite close to voting for 'Back To Black'.

Her whole album just feels like a 2006 item - like 'Say It Right' and 'Glamorous' I didn't really feel I should vote for 'Back To Black' because even though it was an 07 single its impact was more from the previous year. Lord knows how 'Rehab' ended up here though.

I voted for "Rehab". Admittedly at the time I submitted my ballot I'd forgotten it was originally a 2006 release. But Amy's pretty much dominated 2007 for good or ill and I've warmed to her more and more as time has worn on. (Literally today I ordered the album from Amazong.) This track still seems to me the most significant track, even though I like all the singles taken from the album. Loads of different people have covered it now, from GA to Justin to Shawn Lee's Ping Pong Orchestra. I particularly liked Wayne Marshall's parody, "Weed Bag" (which in turn further boosted my regard for the writing and the arrangement of the original).

Also it's been in the charts ever since the download rules were relaxed - still in the Top 75 now.

If I'd done my list based on stuff I'd got into during 2007 (of whatever era), then "Rehab" would have been on it, and probably quite high.

Every time Amy's had a public meltdown this year, 'Rehab' has gone back up the charts.

"Rehab" was 2007 in the Murrica; just as "Say It Right" was 2006 in the Land Of Vespucci.

'Rehab' which is from well inside 2006

Not for Americans, though -- we got "You Know I'm No Good" first, "Rehab" second, in the beginning of 2007.

Oh yeah you had that funny Ghostface guest verse on 'You Know I'm No Good'. Funny peculiar (a bit funny ha ha, too).

I forget where I saw this, and have mislaid the link, but 'Back To Black' was one of Nicole Richie's top 7 singles of 07. To which I say, where is your own long-awaited album, bitch?

Probably on ONTD (http://community.livejournal.com/ohnotheydidnt/19028731.html) -- she ranked it right above "Valerie," guess she's a fan of the whole Ronson family.

Was "Dandelions" actually Nicole, does anyone know?

and I'd also be interested to know what got nominated for 'best video' and 'most fanciable person' (tho botherd about having a poll on these now)

I wonder how the top 10 here will compare with the top ten chart-poll ticks?

and also this is the 2nd time that a poptimist thread has ignored Jay-Z's male rapping contribution to Umbrella! :-)

Fair nuff - it is amusing to think of it as a reflection on the redundancy of the rap tho :)

I saw the video twice on Hits!TV yesterday - it's still well poor (apart from the 'all you need and moaaaar' bit which made me CRY the second time round! Still! After 100000x listens!) but I keep noticing new things about the SONG each time. Like how Jay-Z calls her 'Ree-harner' instead of 'Ree-anner'.

I pretty much know the Jay-Z rap off by heart, but it's got to the stage where I've heard it so much that I have no idea whether it's any good or not.

People say the Lil' Mama remix is better, and her rap is obv better, but it misses Rihanna's second verse :(

I prefer the original because it's got more of the basic song itself, despite my liking for Miss Umbuberella Mama. I basically forget that Jay-Z has anything to do with this, since once he's done with the starting rap he's gone. If you took his rap out the song would be better, but it doesn't get in the way, is just an intro.

From: [identity profile] edgeofwhatever.livejournal.com
Actually, if you take his rap out it's kind of boring. I (badly) stitched together the intro from the Jayless version (which has a slightly different/annoying mix on Rihanna's vocals) and Rihanna's vocals from the single version (which is just better) to see if it made a difference, and Jay-free it's just...off.

The MIA choices are mildly perplexing - not because they're any bad (well apart from 'Boyz' which is just a bit dull) but because 'Hussel' and 'Bamboo Banga' are so much better.

Actually the list is mostly fine, bar a Gnash here and an emo there - what riles isn't so much what's on it as what got left off it despite being ten thousand times as good.

Great top three, mind. Almost exactly my own.

But 'Boyz' and 'Paper Planes' were/are singles, unlike 'Bamboo Banga'. I imagine there will have been votes for those two from people who haven't yet heard the album, just the singles.

Yeah, I think that the stand-outs were few and far between, but the year also had some surprises in it that didn't really code "teenpop" to the (whole) teenpop crew -- i.e., there are probably a lot more general votes for "Potential Break Up Song" than there are from people who posted on teenpop (I know I didn't vote it in my top ten). And I don't really consider Britney teenpop this year, though she obviously gets discussed along with it. Miley's an anomaly in several ways, not least of which is that her single seems to be taking over the (Top 40 radio) world with no support whatsoever from Disney (compare this to the concerted effort to make, say, Aly & AJ's "Rush" take over the world last year).

My votes:

1. Lloyd f. Lil Wayne "You"
2. Miley Cyrus "See You Again"
3. Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons "Beggin' (Palooski Edit)"
4. Ashley Tisdale "Not Like That"
5. JoJo "Anything"
6. Britney Spears "Gimme More"
7. Cassie "Turn The Lights Off"
8. Yung Berg f. Junior "Sexy Lady"
9. Paula DeAnda f. Lil Wayne "Easy"
10. Aly & AJ "Blush"

I am going to put my single slist up at some point but have decided to give myself some breathing space and just do it near the end of Jan - I found it absolutely impossible to rank the songs the other week (plus with Idolator and Poptimists only counting a paltry 10, I kept reshuffling based on what needed to be repped for, rather than what I preferred, which I had no idea about).

Interesting that that's the only Siobhan track to crack the top 50...I would have voted for "12 Bar Acid Blues" or "Medevac" (latter of which is a scheduled 2008 single, I think, former of which did well in one of the orgafun play-offs) but she was more of a top 20-type act for me this year.

I quite like the Siobhan but I agree it's more of a top 20 type album- "12 Bar Acid Blues" is by far the one I play the most often. Disappointing that this album has flopped, I've be surprised if she gets another one.

4 of my top 10 got in the full list. I guess that means about averagely mainstream as a Poptimist. I'm comfortable with that!

I guess I was lucky that a couple of my tracks bubbled under the top 40. A lot of willfully obscure voting on my part, I guess. That said, I liked a most of what made the list, so fair enoughl.

Vs. weekly polls?

Curious to see how this will match up against the results of the weekly polls (consensus view vs. personal favorites?)
