- Highest British record: 8. Highest record with a male lead vocal: 11. Pretty much bears out the feeling on the community that it's been a sucky year for British pop music, and also suggests it's not just Frank who's been unimpressed with male voices this year.

(Though cos "pop" tends to be feminine-identified and because this is a "pop community" there'll generally be a bias in the voting towards female acts, I guess).

- I get the impression that the teenpop crew haven't felt 07 was a banner year for teenpop, but even so this looks like a pretty teenpop list! (Depending what you count Britney as currently). Maybe this is because the votes of the US poptimists into teenpop were more coherently together than the UK ones, i.e. BECAUSE standouts were rare they carried greater weight.

- Stuff in the Top 40 I actively dislike: only the Gnasher (and even then it's become a love-to-hate sort of thing).

- Stuff in the Top 40 I think is mediocre or OK but cant see what it's doing here: Feist, Roisin (tho this is the best Roisin song), Ashley (compared to "Be Good To Me" anyway), Dragonette, Miley Cyrus. I like "Get It Shawty" more than "You" and "All My Friends" better than "Someone Great", too, but don't mind those two tracks. "Blush" I can see why people go wild for but it doesn't move me at all though I think it's a good tune.

So basically it's a good list! When I actually think about the top 10 most of those singles are doing different things very well though I'd like a top 10 in which even more different things went on (involving men, or rappers, or rockers).

Fair nuff - it is amusing to think of it as a reflection on the redundancy of the rap tho :)

I saw the video twice on Hits!TV yesterday - it's still well poor (apart from the 'all you need and moaaaar' bit which made me CRY the second time round! Still! After 100000x listens!) but I keep noticing new things about the SONG each time. Like how Jay-Z calls her 'Ree-harner' instead of 'Ree-anner'.

I pretty much know the Jay-Z rap off by heart, but it's got to the stage where I've heard it so much that I have no idea whether it's any good or not.

People say the Lil' Mama remix is better, and her rap is obv better, but it misses Rihanna's second verse :(

I prefer the original because it's got more of the basic song itself, despite my liking for Miss Umbuberella Mama. I basically forget that Jay-Z has anything to do with this, since once he's done with the starting rap he's gone. If you took his rap out the song would be better, but it doesn't get in the way, is just an intro.

Actually, if you take his rap out it's kind of boring. I (badly) stitched together the intro from the Jayless version (which has a slightly different/annoying mix on Rihanna's vocals) and Rihanna's vocals from the single version (which is just better) to see if it made a difference, and Jay-free it's just...off.

The MIA choices are mildly perplexing - not because they're any bad (well apart from 'Boyz' which is just a bit dull) but because 'Hussel' and 'Bamboo Banga' are so much better.

Actually the list is mostly fine, bar a Gnash here and an emo there - what riles isn't so much what's on it as what got left off it despite being ten thousand times as good.

Great top three, mind. Almost exactly my own.

But 'Boyz' and 'Paper Planes' were/are singles, unlike 'Bamboo Banga'. I imagine there will have been votes for those two from people who haven't yet heard the album, just the singles.

Yeah, I think that the stand-outs were few and far between, but the year also had some surprises in it that didn't really code "teenpop" to the (whole) teenpop crew -- i.e., there are probably a lot more general votes for "Potential Break Up Song" than there are from people who posted on teenpop (I know I didn't vote it in my top ten). And I don't really consider Britney teenpop this year, though she obviously gets discussed along with it. Miley's an anomaly in several ways, not least of which is that her single seems to be taking over the (Top 40 radio) world with no support whatsoever from Disney (compare this to the concerted effort to make, say, Aly & AJ's "Rush" take over the world last year).
