It arrives at last! This is the official video for T2 and Jodie's 'Heartbroken', and v nice it is to put some faces to the voice and beats. Bassline/niche/4x4, your time is now.

Why are people so bad at naming these subgenres? 'bassline' and '4x4' tell us nothing about what distinguishes it from other offshoots of Garage. Niche is really bizarre. The basslines aren't particularly powerful although they do have a memorable characteristic in spite of this I guess. On that basis I am going to call this music THRIBBLE, until I think of something more suitable tomorrow.

I do kinda like this tune but it's still not as good as Jaimeson's 'True', and the video is just rubbish!

Go to X5 Dubs myspace http://www.myspace.com/x5dubs and listen to Nicole's Groove which I mentioned before and prefer to Heartbroken altho it somehow feels darker and less radio friendly.

Is anyone here friends with someone who has actually invented a genre name that has taken hold in the world? (The closest I know of is Chuck Eddy, who used the term "nerf metal" for Poison and White Lion and the like, and a few other people began using it too, but it didn't make it into common usage.)

Closest I get is Metal Mike Saunders' email list.

"Generic" will be the next "Speed Garage"

But actually I really like "Niche" as the name of a genre, just as I like "Scene" as the name of a style. In fact, there ought to be a genre called "Genre."

Have long wished that someone would create a style of music called "amphetamine driveway."

Surely niche is no more stupid than garage?

Garage as 'derived from House' makes sense tho! I always thought of it that way at least. Garage Rock makes sense too really.

Niche just seems to have come out of nowhere and seems far too vague or generic - it could mean anything.

It comes from paradise garage though doesn't it - named after a club just like Niche!

Sorry I totally missed that Niche was the club name.

I probably would've said Garage was stupid at the time were it not for the 'house and garage' connection being so agreeable and fitting in itself.
