So on Now 3 Cyndi Lauper came through a very strong line-up to win it. NOW 4, firmly in mid-late '84, has more songs than before (meaning an even HUGER poll), but to my eyes fewer clear contenders, but there are several intriguing love-it-or-hate-it options too and as every yr forthright views are welcome in the comments box, as are requests for YSIs, real actual YSIs and so on.

This one had the pig on the cover, hurrah.

That can't be true! You can't have not heard Never Ending Story or Hello or Ghostbusters or Jump (For My Love) and that's 4 already.

I can't remember how this one goes, which is bugging me because I probably do like it, in fact on principle it is probably better than U2.

Bizzarely enough, "Together In Electric Dreams" was the "special" "song" for me and one of my exes as well. She later became a heroin addict.

This is quite tremendously poor compared to Now 3.

It's bloody awful isn't it! Plus I only seem to know about half of the songs on there, if that!

it's terrible, innit? Was it a bad year, or did the NOW compilers phone in their selections from the poolside?

There's a lot here I don't know either which alarms me. Also alarming is the scant amount of good here compared to the previous NOW which was bustin' at the seams with greatness.

Is it all the fault of the pig?

I can't vote for any of those options re: 'Frog Chorus' given it is staggeringly dire, but still far from the worst work by Lennon or McCartney either separately or together.

I own precisely 3 of these songs, which speaks for itself.

The 3 are:
Bronski Beat (best song on here easy. As I've said elsewhere, the extended 12" mix is k-classic)
Culture Club (War Song = Karlheinz-degree of bonkers = their best song ever! War war is stupid and people are stupid if they disagree)
Queen (on Greatest Hits II, which I rarely play and probably skip this track when I do)

I have dabbled with buying the U2 on 12" several times. Never quite got around to it tho.

And as t'Pooh Sticks would say, I've got "Ghostbusters" and "Tes Tes Te-Te-Te-Te Tes" ON TAPE.

I think the only one I own was my favourite (of the three I like at all), Jump.

I surprise myself by how fond I am of Fab Macca's 'No More Lonely Nights'.

I also surprise myself by how much I dislike 'Electwic Dweams'.

In both cases, it is a matter of the guitar solo.

Also: Rockwell is clearly the greatest thing on this particular NOW. Someone should YSI it.

Your wish, etc

A YSI (128kbps, alas) of Rockwell - Somebody's Watching Me (http://s54.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3JOQJW7P3ANIB1WEGOSE63IU1H).
