Oooooo-oo-ooooo-oo! 'Baby Love' was the top of the ticks for 1964, Diana & co just beating the Kinks and Sandie Shaw. The Bachelors didn't get a single vote, and will slomp off home infront of the telly with a microwave meal for one. Between all of them! This week we bid adieu to Girl Power, welcome back Madge and ponder the ultimate question: what would one resemble with a 'chimney' bestowed upon one in the near future? It's 1998!

A lead for ver Saints is surprising me! I think their stuff's aged much less well in general, maybe it's just that their look, attitude etc was so much more boring.

Plus individual Spice Girls have been very annoying in the media over the years, whereas All Saints' recent album was very good and no one cared so they get underdog status, whether they deserve it or not.

Also I hate the Spice Girls and B*Witched but that's a wholly different matter.

I didn't start! In 1997/8 I loathed the Spicers so much that I had to watch EVERY tv show or news item about them, in order to keep an informed (negative) opinion. Hence I was fully prepared to thoroughly adore them once I'd got over myself X years later innit.

I had a dream the other night that the Spice Girls had reformed for Glastonbury and I was watching from backstage, but everyone got distracted because Michael Eavis was handing out free potatoes.

I have not yet stopped. I am sure I will achieve it one day - there are only a couple of barriers to be overcome, albeit reasonably large ones.

Yeah, what's going on there? I think their stuff's aged pretty badly, and not much of it was any good in the first place. They never looked like they were having any fun either.

I really liked 'I Know Where It's At' and thought the rest of their singles were v disappointing. Everyone kept saying 'but listen to Black Coffee innit' and I went 'ok maybe I WILL' and then never got round to hearing it. I may look it up this evening.

and Bootie Call, Marmalade, everything on the 2nd album that wasnt Pure Shores or Black Coffee. Those two are great singles, the first two are great (though maybe I like "Never Ever" better as "Whole Again"!).

They weren't a bad band by any means at all - "War Of Nerves" is another amazing record, probably better than any single Spice song - but I think they've been a terrible influence on British pop, that drab, overcontrolled high street urban look of theirs which everyone since seems to have picked up on.

Girls Aloud are better than Sugababes, while we're at it ;)

Urgggh the curse of the combat trousers.... I only got round to chucking away both my pairs (unworn for years) just before I moved house.

I had a chain to clip my wallet on to them so it didn't get lost in the mosh pit at gigs as well. It was far too heavy and I hardly ever used it. I hit upon the brainwave that I didn't actually need to take my wallet if I put my travelcard and money in one of the numerous pockets, although realised upon arriving at the venue that forgetting to take my ticket out of my wallet as well was probably an error.

The only reason the high street urban thing is pernicious is because you can only pull it off if you're REALLY AMAZING - ie All Saints and Sugababes!

Pop groups who look like they're having fun <<<<< pop groups who look moody and cool.

Why can't songwriters call their songs by the words in the chorus? Is that so hard?

Really?! In terms of production they both sound as dated as each other - I think the Spices were more consistent but All Saints had higher highs.

imo, all saints had only one really genius high = never ever - whereas the spices had loads - & those two stroppy nappleton sisters = a major drawback

black coffee = hidden from me, thats for sure ( i'll keep an eye out for it tho ) ( on "the hits" they only ever seem to play pure shores these days - o, for a bit of bootie call! )
