Jop Tournament Round 1.6
Feb. 5th, 2007 01:05 pmA couple of intriguing cross-generational match-ups today, and whatever happens, one Destiny's Child record is going to get the chop.
[Poll #921052]
Voting still open in the previous 16 fites, of course. Tomorrow - Madonna v Britney for the first time, and at least two draws that might break the Lex's tiny heart.

Date: 2007-02-05 01:14 pm (UTC)Aaliyah an easy win for me.
Britney/ABC - The Britney record is a bigger icon and probably better, but I'm feeling fond of ABC right now, so consider it a sympathy tick.
Destiny's - "Bootylicious" easily - dunno why I.W. is so rated really, it's a bit stumbly (tho I liked the Charlies Angels film a lot)
Human League/ODB also hard - DYWM is amazing but its long long years of fame have worn it a bit. ODB on the other hand I've listened to so much in the last few years that I'm not really feeling it any more. Both acknowledged greats rather than burning loves, then (a problem I suspect will increase as the poll proceeds).

Date: 2007-02-05 01:23 pm (UTC)I really like Part 1 though - prefer 'Bootylicious' but the sheer sound on Part 1 is v satisfyingly rich. There's a terrific moment after the gorgeous harmonies on the middle eight when they launch, megadivastyle, into the chorus again, and after that utterly triumphant "thrown your HANDS up AT ME" there is this tiny synth harpsichord noise which never occurs anywhere else in the song and it works EXQUISITELY, grounding the electricity DC have created.

Date: 2007-02-05 02:31 pm (UTC)There was also a Village Voice review written by...someone I forget. Anyway, it summed up exactly why Survivor is such a towering album (Beyoncé's persona in particular) - and then concluded that these were failings!
