A couple of intriguing cross-generational match-ups today, and whatever happens, one Destiny's Child record is going to get the chop.

[Poll #921052]

Voting still open in the previous 16 fites, of course. Tomorrow - Madonna v Britney for the first time, and at least two draws that might break the Lex's tiny heart.

It was on the album - it's terrific, far more "interesting" and "weird" than Part 1. A lot jerkier, a lot more tuneless, and the lyrics are really quite something, because it's not the female self-empowerment of Part 1 any more - it's a blanket dismissal of everything and everyone in Beyoncé's way, probably the most explicit statement of her shark-eyedness. Of course I adore it, I identify wholly with sentiments like "I am my number one priority/No falling in love, no commitment from me" and the bald contempt in the line "When it's all over please get up and leave".

I really like Part 1 though - prefer 'Bootylicious' but the sheer sound on Part 1 is v satisfyingly rich. There's a terrific moment after the gorgeous harmonies on the middle eight when they launch, megadivastyle, into the chorus again, and after that utterly triumphant "thrown your HANDS up AT ME" there is this tiny synth harpsichord noise which never occurs anywhere else in the song and it works EXQUISITELY, grounding the electricity DC have created.

despite my rating all TWOTW singles above all Survivor singles I agree - Survivor is a terrific album, I think I've read Sterling's analysis.

There was also a Village Voice review written by...someone I forget. Anyway, it summed up exactly why Survivor is such a towering album (Beyoncé's persona in particular) - and then concluded that these were failings!
