19 years of the Bootiful Sahrf (who are deceptively from THE NORTH! Who'da thunk) and what have they got to show for themselves? 22 hit singles, that's what. You get to pick SEVEN tracks from the following 'bittersweet kitchen sink dramas' (cheers wikipedia). You know you cannot resist the ticky!

I can TOTALLY resist the ticky. One of the worst bands to have ever had a hit.

I certainly do - I hate them.

Yes I am afraid I have to abstein from this vote on account of TBS being too much the rub.

Somehow this did not happen with Status Quo but that's largely because I didn't know most of their singles and was hoping they were secretly great before 1985 (sadly not quite the case).

Can't we have a Complete Norman Cook canon instead?

We can't be reduced to scraping the bottom of the Canon barrel already!

I like Alanis! Everything post-Jagged Little Pill is awful but that's a decent album and 'You Oughta Know' is AMAZING still.

I don't mind The Beautiful South. I coul only find it in myself to tick four of their songs but there are worse enemies.

MISSYCANON is needed!

Destiny's Child then!

With an added Desto's solo question maybe.

U&K for canonisation:

U2
Destiny's Child (you can include Bouncy - and Kelly - and Michelle if applicable - in this)
Dylan
Elvis P
ELO
Thin Lizzy / Phil Lynott / Gary Moore

I have contemplated the U2 canon about five times and never had the heart.

NO WAY. I genuinely and wholeheartedly like a couple of songs by the Implies.

PRML SCRM CNN!

REM and Jackson Five canons would be doable as well. Have we done GNRCANON or Meatloafcanon yet?

Also Madnesscanon, Bobmarleycanon, Arethacanon, Shaunrydercanon, Alicecoopercanon, METALLICACANON!

Madness, yes, yes!

I think Alanis got better after Jagged Little Pill. Singles-wise at least. 'Thank You', 'Hands Clean', 'So Pure' all Quite Good.

I liked 'Thank You' muchly and then completely lost interest. Still like the JLP songs though. Very much of an age for me.

I could do one seeing as I'm not running any polls myself at the mo. I am going to bring back Album Science next week as there were two more from the 00s to do before the experiment is completed.

Was "36D" really not a single??? That one is especially terrible, though they topped it with "Don't Marry Her" and "Perfect 10".

36D

Close your legs, open your mind
Leave those compliments well behind
Dig a little deeper into yourself
And you may find

Come over here just sit right down
Needn't comb your hair, needn't pout or frown
I hear you've turned our young men
Into dribbling clowns

36D so what (D) so what
Is that all that you've got?
36D so what (D) so what
Is that all that you've got?

Make their day and go ahead
Remove your clothes lie on their bed
Just a last gasp chance or an outside bet
To the easily led

And before you do just what you do
Here' one thought for you to chew
The men who run the business that you sell
They screw you too

36D so what (D) so what
Is that all that you've got?
36D so what (D) so what
Is that all that you've got?

You're just another 365 night stand
But you're so handy, you're so handy
You cheapen and you nasty every woman in this land
But you're so handy, you're so handy

Your picture's hanging pretty on the squaddies' walls
You're Steven's, Andy's, you're Ian's, you're Paul's
Your body's through of fondly in the rugby mauls
But you want more

36D so what (D) so what
Is that all that you've got?

36D so what (D) so what
Is that all that you've got?

36D so what (D) so what
Is that all that you've got?

36D so what (D) so what
Is that all that you've got?

I liked "Song For Whoever" at the time.

"Old Red Eyes Is Back" may be actually good, I will have to check.

"A Little Time" has comedy imitation value.

'Old Red Eyes Is Back' has a bit of a late-period Madness vibe about it a little. But not much cop.

I can only remember three TBS songs but was prepared to tick all three on the grounds of being pleasant enough...

When I first saw this I thought to myself "See, I don't like this lot, but I bet they're one of those bands where I know more of their stuff than I realise."

Turns out it's the other way, and I actually know less of their stuff than I thought I did.

A few songs are really brilliant!

Yeesh. 80% of you so far have ticked "Song for Whomever" (which I have never heard). So quit yer gripin.

"Rotterdam" is a wonderful little slice of MOR self-pity and delicate hooks.

I LOVE the three voices on "You Keep It All In."

And "We Are Each Other," well I can't remember it at the moment, but I know I like it because I just d/led it over the holidays.

Even so, I really have never heard it. (Wasn't a single in the US, where I was at the time.)

We should remark on the cover art of the debut LP... the two pics of people with guns in their mouths, briefly pulled off the shelves thanks to some oversensitive folk complaining, and replaced with pics of cuddly toys... The original art was reinstated fairly quickly though, making the shortlived cuddly version slightly more collectible.

Easiest canon ever. One tick: the gorgeous "Rotterdam". Everything else, nah, though admittedly only "Perfect 10" is bad enough to make me vom in my mouth.

"A Little Time" is wife + me's karaoke standard -- she sings man, I woman. Also: flour-covered teddy bear in video!
