[Poll #913748]
Tomorrow's final groups include three Jop poll winners, erm and some other stuff.

Date: 2007-01-25 01:32 pm (UTC)Group Z: Very uninspiring - not a big fan of "Time After Time" but it gets the tick here.
Group ALPHA: Four great tracks but "One More Time" is one of my top 5 ever, so yeah.
Group BETA: Prince track vs Prince-written track. "Corvette" gets it.

Date: 2007-01-25 01:35 pm (UTC)Also tricky: Missy vs Dre&Tupac. Missy gets it for the "BEEP BEEP, WHO GOT THE KEYS TO THE JEEP? BRRRRRRRRM".
Botherd about the rest.

Date: 2007-01-25 01:55 pm (UTC)Yes, going for the 'underdog' (against what I preceive the poptimist mass will go for) is something I happen to be doing at times (it happened with Portishead yesterday, but not this time).

Date: 2007-01-25 01:48 pm (UTC)Z: GAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!! MIA v Stardust v Cyndi! Narrowed down to MIA and Cyndi even if "music sounds better with you" is the most romantic phrase I have ever heard in a pop song ever; going with MIA because 'Time After Time' has never been the soundtrack to an entire summer. If the White Stripes look at all like winning at any point I WILL switch.
Alpha: GAAAAHHHHH!!!!! Oh man these are all really really sodding hard. Pac v Missy? Pac v Missy? That piano versus that...everything? Everything beats piano, also Missy is funnier, also BEEP BEEP, who got the keys to my JEEP? Vrrrooommmm.
Beta: Thank the lord for an easy one. Gorgeous lovely 'Little Red Corvette'. Franz Ferdinand - get the fuck outta here bitches.

Date: 2007-01-25 03:42 pm (UTC)It's an interesting topic.
suggested method
Date: 2007-01-25 03:58 pm (UTC)2) try and find the earliest examples of the phenomenon in the process
3) focus on the sillier or more unusual examples (if taking it to radio)
4) draw conclusions (how/when is it good/bad etc.)
5) do a poll to see which ones were most successful or are best as songs (poptimists only)
Cadillacs not on 22s, or the radio
Date: 2007-01-25 04:21 pm (UTC)Re: Cadillacs not on 22s, or the radio
Date: 2007-01-25 04:38 pm (UTC)it's as if mentioning a brand in your verses is more acceptable than putting it in the title. the more i think about it the more i wonder if Prince really pushed something through there (there could be so many earlier instances tho, i just can't think of them at the mo).
it never occurred to me that Corvette had a previous association tho (again just because I never thought about it and hadn't come across the word in any other context other than a type of American sports car) as a type of boat. so song titles featuring an ORIGINAL brand name would perhaps be even more interesting to look at and focus on.

Date: 2007-01-25 03:55 pm (UTC)Never seen the appeal of Little Red Corvette. In melodic/hookiness terms, it's rubbish.

Date: 2007-01-25 01:59 pm (UTC)20ish vote outlook
Date: 2007-01-25 02:04 pm (UTC)Z: Stardust not polling as well as I'd expect yet - Cyndi could surge given how well this did in its Now poll.
Alph: Looks like clear win for Missy.
Bet: God knows! If I had to guess I'd say the Franz fans won't be as torn as others here, so they might get through.
Re: 20ish vote outlook
Date: 2007-01-25 02:56 pm (UTC)Good logic on the Franz fans. I really wanted to vote for it (same logic as GnR, ie, too many riffs too ignore) but I couldn't do it.

Date: 2007-01-25 02:12 pm (UTC)Group Z - Came down to "Time After Time" v. White Stripes and, apologies to Lex, but I went with the Stripes. Very catchy and with a nice guitar and just seems to be more original and rare than "Time After Time"
Group ALPHA - Voted Daft Punk. Another like but not love group that features a mid tier Daft Punk single and a mid tier Missy single along with some good mid 90s rap. Meh.
Group BETA - The hardest group yet, I think. I seriously deliberated for ticking all 4 of these choices. All 10/10 songs, eek. I voted for "Little Red Corvette", one of my favorite (maybe my favorite) Prince singles
