Tiresome admin bit: I asked on Monday whether we should include the Jackin Pop 2006 results in the overall Pazz and Jop ones. Results were positive but not overwhelming, so I decided to do the poll anyway and if enough people fill it out to make it a comparable sample (hark at the market researcher) it'll count. Otherwise, it won't.

Anyway, 41 tracks, fourteen ticks, here you go.

[Poll #909183]

TashBed never really got any love from this voting body, which is unsurprising. "Unwritten" was in my top 10 for 2005, at any rate (of course, I didn't have a vote). Of the exclusions, I am surprised by Ne-Yo, Sean Paul, and Shakira, not that they are really great or anything, I just thought they'd make it. Young Joc too. This list was a lot more "indie" than I expected it to be.

My Chemical Romance get the emo-rock slot in the poll (over Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco, All American Rejects, etc.), though not on this list. To be fair, that's because the popularity of the song has been confined to after December 1. It will be in the top 40 of 2007, I presume. Still, wish it would have been "Move Along".

Also, Fred Bronson publishes year end lists in his book (Billboards Hottest Hits of All Time? Or something like that) which has year end lists that are, I think much better than the official ones. For one, they run from January 1 to December 31. They also tabulate holdovers. That is, a song is placed into the year it was most popular and receives all of its points in that year (even if some of its popularity was in prior or future years). Of course, those lists only go up to his latest edition, which was before 2006.
