Tiresome admin bit: I asked on Monday whether we should include the Jackin Pop 2006 results in the overall Pazz and Jop ones. Results were positive but not overwhelming, so I decided to do the poll anyway and if enough people fill it out to make it a comparable sample (hark at the market researcher) it'll count. Otherwise, it won't.

Anyway, 41 tracks, fourteen ticks, here you go.

[Poll #909183]

This also gives me the opportunity for the Joptimists 2005 Top 10!

1. Since U Been Gone (43 votes)
2. 1 Thing (41)
3. Hollaback Girl (34)
4. Hung Up (33)
5. Gold Digger (31)
6. Mr Brightside (26)
7=. I Predict A Lex Coronary (25)
7=. Pon De Replay (25)
9=. Feel Good Inc (24)
9=. Bucky Done Gun (24)

Judging from the list above it looks like us folks in the UK had great year for imported pop: Justin, Nelly, Bouncey, Cansei, Cassie, Xtina, TI, Rhianna - even Kelis had a decent single. Reprazenting the Brits we have Lily and... er...um. I know this is an US list but DUDES sort it out.

Bring on the reign of Lady Sov. I know she is up there but she has hardly made superstar impact in the same way as eg Lily. In fact I may order her alBUM tonight off the magical interweb.

Lots of 'wrong' tracks

from lots of 'right' bands. Ultimately this is a good thing as it freed up ticks I would have otherwise had to consider giving to Clipse, Junior Boys and Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

I've got two ticks to go. I'm open to bribes. Problem isn't that I can't find anything worth ticking, but that I've got too many choices. Both Timberlakes, Xtina, "Maneater," both Clipses, Prince, "Wolf Like Me" (won't come close to getting the tick, but it is clearly the most visceral on the alb and the obvious single; I'd actually have liked to hear someone with an r&b voice - Timberlake - do it; the TV On The Radio guy just rides the rhythm with too blank a voice; Timberlake might have the right combination of juiciness and delicacy), Lady Sov, the Knife, "Young Folks" (again, there are performance problems).

1. Veronicas "4ever" (Warner Bros.)
2. Aly & AJ "Rush" (Hollywood)
3. Lily Allen "LDN" (Regal import)
4. The Pack "Vans" (Jive)
5. Marit Larsen "Only A Fool" (EMI)
6. High School Musical (Zac Efron, Drew Seeley, Vanessa Hudgens) "Breaking
Free" (Hollywood)
7. Hi_Tack "Say Say Say (Waiting for You)" (Gut import)
8. Britney Spears "And Then We Kiss" (Jive)
9. Blog 27 "Hey Boy" (Magic import)
10. Yung Joc "It's Goin' Down" (Bad Boy)

My choices have a distressing lack of nonyoung people and lack of people without vaginas. For P&J I swapped out "And Then We Kiss" for "London Bridge," which pushes the list older only slightly, and does nothing to overcome the dearth of penises. (Avg. age is 32 years younger than I; avg. sex is 75% less male than I.) If you go off-camera you do get some more grownups and more men - but even there, often enough, female-male combos are wielding chords and boards.

Greg Fanoe's Theoretical Jackin' Pop Ballot 2006

1. Lillix - "Sweet Temptation (Hollow)"
2. Amy Diamond - "Don't Cry Your Heart Out"
3. Aly & AJ - "Rush"
4. Beyonce - "Irreplaceable"
5. Marit Larsen - "Only A Fool"
6. Hannah Montana - "I Got Nerve"
7. Carrie Underwood - "Before He Cheats"
8. All American Rejects - "Move Along"
9. Paris Hilton - "Nothing In This World"
10. Hilary Duff - "Play With Fire"

An overlap of only one, but I did switch out "Hey Lloyd, I'm Ready to Be Heartbroken" for Hilary Duff at the last second. I would have been the only person voting for the Hannah Montana and Hilary Duff tunes, which disheartens but does not surprise me. Lack of support for the Carrie Underwood and AAR tracks, though, was disheartening AND surprising to me.
