this mashup was actually done by Soulwax/2 Many DJs but seems to be credited to FH all over the internet and beyond.

either way it's a really boring one and way over-rated.

From a technical perspective perhaps, but the song itself is so great at what the two records have and lack. It's also the reason for my first FT "article" (http://freakytrigger.co.uk/old-ft/essays/2003/07/glasto2003/).

Nothing except the best hook of the last fifty years.

A DC-on-DC mash-up of 'Bootylicious' and 'Say My Name' would have been a bit pointless though.

I was surprised that I didn't tick either bootleg given that I was really into them at the time (bootlegs generally not these two specifically). I've never liked 'Smells Like Teen Booty' because I consider it a blasphemous INSULT to Destiny's Child; I really like 'A Stroke Of Genius' but the fundamental thing is really that it actually makes 'Genie In A Bottle' worse.

most people seem to think the 'put female pop or soul singer* over rock track' template worked best for mash-ups. something to do with being able to accept the vocalists more with the 'right' backing perhaps? i guess i'm saying i thought people were being rockist about bootlegs in this respect...ditto 'oh they were fun for a few weeks but the only good ones are (name two at random that aren't even that good but were played on Radio 1 by Whiley and Moyles!)...

...because as you say it's not as if most songs mashed up were really improved, the effects were usually just complimentary at best. i didn't like 'Genie In A Bottle' music much originally tho whereas i loved 'Bootylicious' so thought any mash-up of it and something else would be inferior to the original. it was very much swings and roundabouts for me.

fixed!

I think my favourite bootleg may have been the Craig David/Fischerspooner one.

I ticked "Stroke of Genius" even though I have the same problem with it, namely that "Genie in a Bottle" is way better. "Genie in a Bottle" is 10/10 whereas this is maybe a 7/10. Still, a good mashup. Didn't tick "Smells Like Booty". Would have ticked "Lisa's Got Hives"

I have fond memories of this one because I experienced 2 Many DJs dropping this live in Belgium just before the peak of their fame. The look on the face of Arthur Baker (due next to DJ) was a picture: "oh fuck, my entire record box has just been rendered irrelevant".
