i'm surprised to see echobelly this year, but i think it may have just been late in the year and my year/song brain slips all over the place. cor but i loved bellyache - i had all the eps up to to the 1st album. ace b-sides too.

Well Britpop being Select's particular 'thing' it's not surprising that they were sniffing around particularly hard for poppy British bands towards the tail end of 93.

Think that the next few years will be the greatest divergence between Britain and America, and then there will be some minor reconvergence when Brits start going for a lot of hip-hop and r&b again (unless Brit critics don't) (but there'll be greater divergence with all the techno-house offspring that U.S. critics ignored or never even heard).
