i'm glad they liked 'Pacific' that much. everybody seemed to at the time, and perhaps even now! :) it was my favourite record of all time for ages until i realised that having an instrumental as #1 might be a bit silly so it went back to 'blue monday'

pacific was masseev! except with my uber rockist indie chums who were most unimpressed with my 12" remixes :-(

this is how much a student nme-ist i was: i went to the reading festivals in 89 (sugarcubes! new order!) and 90 (wedding present! inspirals!).

ever the one to choose the loser, i thought Happy Mondays a bit meh, but loved the inspirals. Joe EP - corr!

I expected this to be dreadful, but The Cu*t and The Cu*e aside, it's not bad actually. I love this Aerosmith song (don't know the one that made the P&J list).

Monkey gone to heaven - Pixies
Can't Be Sure - The Sundays
The Sensual World - Kate Bush
Lullaby - The Cure
Keep on movin' - Soul II Soul
Just like heaven - Dinosaur Jr.
She Bangs the Drums - Stone Roses
Me Myself and I - De La Soul
Love in an Elevator - Aerosmith
Fire Woman - The Cult
W.F.L. - Happy Mondays
Back To Life - Soul II Soul
Eye Know - De La Soul
You're History - Shakespeare’s Sister
Downtown Lights - The Blue Nile
Say No Go - De La Soul
Blue Moon Revisited - Cowboy Junkies
Manchild - Neneh Cherry
Lazyitis - Happy Mondays
Omega Amigo - The Shamen

The NME had their annual "take Paul Heaton and some other pop drunks to a pub and get them to mutter about the year's singles" feature, which is - along with Radio On - the other parent of the FT Focus Group.

I always did love those.
