Haha yes the Cure approval put me off buying MM for another year. I think it was around this time they started having their "debate" issues - The Techno Debate; The Goth Debate; and so on - which were awful and awesome at the same time.

The NME had their annual "take Paul Heaton and some other pop drunks to a pub and get them to mutter about the year's singles" feature, which is - along with Radio On - the other parent of the FT Focus Group.
