England 1 Portugal 2

Portugal are through to play France or Japan in the Pop World Cup Semi-Finals as another English pop campaign ends in recriminations and shattered dreams. With fresh talent on the bench, boss [livejournal.com profile] zenith chose to play an experienced forward line who were simply unable to cope with Portugal's slick passing game. Two nil up at the break, the Portugese chose to defend in the second half and the game threatened to fizzle out, until an England goal in the 85th minute set up a desperate finish. But it was too little, too late, and [livejournal.com profile] thebopkids is the hero of Lisbon tonight having seen off England in competitive play once again.

Trinidad 3 Iran 4 (aet: 2-2 in normal time)

Iran squeezed into the Pop World Cup semi-finals after an unforgettable match in which they twice pulled back a Trinidadian lead. Level at half time, the match exploded into action as Trinidad hit Iran on the break in the first minute of the second half. Iran equalised to take matters into extra time, and Trinidad boss [livejournal.com profile] jel_bugle was controversially sent to the stands after he rushed onto the pitch in protest at Iranian 'time-wasting'. From there he saw his side take the lead a second time, but Trinidad were visibly tiring, and Iran found a second wind to score two well-worked goals in quick succession and end Tobagan dreams. [livejournal.com profile] dubdobdee will now fancy his chances against either Togo or the Czech Republic in the semis: Trinidad fans can reflect on a lively campaign and on a role in one of the great PWC games.

Instead of a proper canon this week it's time to celebrate EUROVISION, what is on this weekend. I have selected 15 of the UK's entries, and 15 entries from elsewhere, and you can VOTE for as many as you like.

Good old Eurovision.

Bonus question for the comments box: when the DARK DAY comes when Uncle Terry can no longer do the job, who should take over as E-viz supremo? Or will the contest END in a ravens/tower deal?
