Trinidad 3 Iran 4 (aet: 2-2 in normal time)

Iran squeezed into the Pop World Cup semi-finals after an unforgettable match in which they twice pulled back a Trinidadian lead. Level at half time, the match exploded into action as Trinidad hit Iran on the break in the first minute of the second half. Iran equalised to take matters into extra time, and Trinidad boss [livejournal.com profile] jel_bugle was controversially sent to the stands after he rushed onto the pitch in protest at Iranian 'time-wasting'. From there he saw his side take the lead a second time, but Trinidad were visibly tiring, and Iran found a second wind to score two well-worked goals in quick succession and end Tobagan dreams. [livejournal.com profile] dubdobdee will now fancy his chances against either Togo or the Czech Republic in the semis: Trinidad fans can reflect on a lively campaign and on a role in one of the great PWC games.

I am absolutely gutted. The lads are gutted. I feel really let down by the referee and his assistants. Offside, handball, two footed tackles, diving...they missed everything. There pockets must be lined with Rials. I've got three players with broken metatarsals now, it could be the end of their playing days!! Then for me to be sent to the stands? Unbelievable!! I shall be resigning with immediate effect.

I hope to attend the final in person, I promise a few surprises.

This is a travesty. The Trinidad & Tobago team was the best we've seen in the tournament so far and I think the Iranian manager could be bullying the judges into believing his own hype.

you can't have "quiet satisfaction" without i.e.

all that stood between our rivals and victory was their ZOMBIELIKE COMMITMENT TO THE DEBAUCHED RATTLETRAP OF WESTERN SO-CALLED MORALITY -- otherwise they were hot and on it, like

Playing in the dazzling shadow of Millie Smalls and Aqua was too much of a handicap for the Trinidadians, but the match was enjoyed by the fans.
