I never understood why 'SOTU' was so beloved of everyone! It's great and all but it's aceness was v much "omg I didn't expect them to sound like this" - it is a formula yet to be perfected and I think it is categorically trumped by most of the bangers since.

It's not a formula, there still isn't another record that sounds remotely like it. Which obv is more than can be said for No Sharona.

Er, WHAT?

I mean, I suppose that it's probably the closest thing to SOTU, b-but it doesn't have the surf guitar, and there's only one of her and she sounds v. bored, and it clanks along, and it just drops into the chorus instead of soaring up into it... I do love it, but this is definitely reaching.

'SOTU' is essentially a mash-up of 'Addicted To Bass', 'Will You Go To Bed With Me?', 'The Beat Goes On', 'Guaglione' and a couple of other things...which on paper equals brilliant but i found in practice didn't add up to more than the sum of it's parts. but then i didn't like GA at all until 'The Show'.
