Back. Back! BACK!!! It's the Now poll, this time muscled into 1996 by an Oasis track on each arm. Now 32 was a second win for Pulp, closer this time though with Coolio and Shaggy trailing. Can Pulp make it 3 in a row? On paper this looks like a weak opposition but who knows which way the whim of Poptimists will wend?

it is prob between st et and luniz for best song from the "Which is the best?" question. the ticky boxes are a consensus not to do with best, but LCD innit. disco 2000 is good enough to reach out, but it's far from pulp's best stuff (tho still fun). i.e. pulp is a dancefloor filler, but st et will get things started

I am not sure Disco 2000 is my actual favourite here, but I didn't want to pick an ancient rerelease, i.e. the great Etta James. Nothing else came close to those two for me.

I have never been able to listen to any Radiohead without at the very least grinding my teeth.

In so far as you can answer this (which obviously may or may not be that far): why?

I don't think I have an answer to that. I've always instantly disliked anything I've heard that has turned out to be by them, and this has meant that I avoid them as much as possible, and I'm good at not registering things I don't like, mostly. Nothing by them has come to my attention enough times that I've absorbed it to the point where I could offer even a cursory analysis - they made enormously less impact on my consciousness than Oasis and Blur, for instance. I've never had to review anything by them - although I did write about a cover of Just a few weeks back on Stylus. I liked the record and wrote that it was let down only by the very horrible indie song, and that was before I knew it was any kind of cover.

I realise this is no help, but console yourself with the thought that even if I'd spent weeks listening closely to them, I would probably still have nothing useful to say.

'Disco 2000' is definitely one of the ten best Pulp singles ;)
