Back. Back! BACK!!! It's the Now poll, this time muscled into 1996 by an Oasis track on each arm. Now 32 was a second win for Pulp, closer this time though with Coolio and Shaggy trailing. Can Pulp make it 3 in a row? On paper this looks like a weak opposition but who knows which way the whim of Poptimists will wend?

It's pretty rotten. I think once they went to 3 a year the first of the year was always a bit of a stinker, see upcoming Now 63 for further 'proof' of this hastily formed theory.

Agreed. NOW polls are reminding me how much worstgood Pulp there is. This is not a happy thing.

"Spaceman" - I thought of putting "Spaceman (first 20 seconds)" and "Spaceman (rest)" as separate though. The lyrics to Spaceman are v.funny

Lush - least convincing reinvention as 'pop' act ever?

"Street Spirit" - truly APALLING video, boring song.

Dubstar - finger-wagging song about old people, vile.

Saint Etienne ought to be walking this. And Gabrielle ought to be in second or third.

'ladykillers' is the ONLY time i came close to 'getting' britpop - ie the culture, the scene, the hanging out in camden (obv from a distance, at the time i'd never been to camden OH HAPPY TIMES) - as opposed to just a couple of songs here and there. i have the album; all the singles = ace, still; all the album tracks = extremely rub.
