The Now polls are all good and proper, aren't they? But surely, around the time of Now 29, Now 30, a new breed of compilation entered the arena. Taking as it's theme the indie big hitters from the Now Polls, the mighty SHINE series catered to a growing crowd of kids who were reading about a new thing called "britpop" in Smash Hits. If you ask me, SH! always seemed rather obsessed with Damon All-Bran's TIBETAN LOVE BEAD necklace. Ew.

The Green Day one is great!

Actually, that first CD isn't bad at all, and Cigs and Alcohol is the best Wasis song.

Do you remember the wurst time?

This compilation isn't so bad, probably because it had 4 years of nindie to pick from and not 4 months. Even so no excuse for Shed Seveng and DODGY.

LOOK THEY SWITCHED THE WORD AMYL FOR THE WORD ANIMAL!!!!!

Things I remember about the Shine series:

1. All the traXor were EITHER already owned by me OR were rub, so I never bought one.
2. The first one came out aaaaages before the others, and was one of a host of similar stuff from now + nindie classix ov the past comps at the time. I was most surprised when the second one came out 2 years(?) later.

Things I don't remember:

1. Were Shine 2 to Shine N strictly happening sounds of now (as was) or did they too include some old school material to bolster the paltry modern offerings?

Shee-ine 4 is the first one I own, and that is strictly in the here and now (or the there and then... you know what I mean). What other reason could there be for the Smokin' Mojo Filters ?

Shine 7 was pretty contemporary, but also very good. The first Shine album way my introduction to indie, fact fans.

I concur, although I get mixed up with this series and 'best album in world evar' which I think was going the same time. Anyway they were not as now as 'Now'compilations.

I always think that original Zombie is better than it is, because the ADAM and Amy bosh version was SO AMAZING. But of course it isn't.

Would these same people tick "I Just Shot John Lennon"?

I am surprised at the lack of love for "Regret" -- the more time passes, the more I am convinced it is one New Order's finest moments.
