The Now polls are all good and proper, aren't they? But surely, around the time of Now 29, Now 30, a new breed of compilation entered the arena. Taking as it's theme the indie big hitters from the Now Polls, the mighty SHINE series catered to a growing crowd of kids who were reading about a new thing called "britpop" in Smash Hits. If you ask me, SH! always seemed rather obsessed with Damon All-Bran's TIBETAN LOVE BEAD necklace. Ew.

Do you remember the wurst time?

This compilation isn't so bad, probably because it had 4 years of nindie to pick from and not 4 months. Even so no excuse for Shed Seveng and DODGY.

LOOK THEY SWITCHED THE WORD AMYL FOR THE WORD ANIMAL!!!!!

Jesus H Christ, what a sorry excuse for a band Suede were.

I ticked them and will do so again esp if "Stay Together" (with the RAP) is on it.

But in general, yes.

The only good Suede = the first 20 secs of The Drowners ie the bit before Bert opens his mouth. Oh, and I used to have a soft spot for The Next Life, of all things, but that was entirely bcz of a particular young lady of my then acquaintance. If I heard it now, I'd almost certainly hate it.

What you need is to hear Pete singing it. His version is, I believe, definitive.

Even better than the FSA version? [livejournal.com profile] atommickbrane's face was a treat the first time I played it to her.

I remain v. fond of their "let's stop being edgy and write some guitar pop songs" later albums.

Suede had Justine in it once and hence was GOOD
