Now 23 is the BIGGEST! NOW! YET! with 39 tracks - and looking at the tracklisting you can understand why. Not because that tricky 1992-1993 bridge was a particularly fertile time for pop (in fact it looks pretty awful on this selection), but because some of the tracks have featured in these polls before. Freddie and Monserrat get a 'lympic-driven second crack of the whip; Heaven 17 return in remixed form; Simple Minds return for no reason I can see whatsoever. Meanwhile we have toytown techno, a few dead pop stars, a truly disgraceful 'tribute' to one of them, and - something I had genuinely and happily forgotten before typing this poll out - The Farm covering Don't You Want Me.
How thankful I am to look back on Now 22, which "Rhythm Is A Dancer" won by a single vote from En Vogue. CeCe P3n1ston came in third, and then SL2 and Utah Saints with scores in the mid-60s. Given the staggering greatness of SL2 and Utah Saints this brings me sadface, but there's no accounting for poptimist taste. Nick Berry and Jimmy Nail shared the dishonours, though Jimmy also had several fans. A predictably wide set of highpoints for Carter USM, with decking Phil Schofield and "Bloodsport 4 All" (TOPICAL INNIT) roughly most mentioned.

If Sophie B Hawkins doesn't win then Dom will kill us all. I very much wish to survive.

Date: 2006-02-13 01:51 pm (UTC)the Tetris track is horrible really esp. that cod-Russian accent. maybe if it wasn't for the hand Lloyd-Webber had in it it would be easier to like. prior to Dr Spin there was an ardkore track that just put the Tetris music direct over breakbeats.

Date: 2006-02-13 02:12 pm (UTC)1. Although Now 25 was my first Now purchase (and indeed, first album purchase!) this is the chronologically first Now that's actually mine and not nicked off
2. I had the BEST IDEA EVER in bed this morning, viz and advertising campaign for KFC utilizing Simple Minds but changing the words to "Love is, Love is, My kind of Chickeeeeen". This may have been my subconcious precogniting the fact that there are k-loads of advert songs on this one (Erma, Hooker, er... Barcelona)
3. People out there think I'm crazy, but I've got to rescue Daisy.

Date: 2006-02-13 03:19 pm (UTC)Tasmin's first CD was OK (must dig it out and play it again soon) although today I think I'd much rather listen to a CD by Betty Boo or Sophie B H
This is one of the very few Was (Not Was) tracks I don't own. I have the original version of "Shake Your Head (Let's Go To Bed)" feat. pre-Reality TV stardom Ozzy. But IIRC this version also had Ms KIM BASINGER on it.

Date: 2006-02-13 07:17 pm (UTC)To elaborate on my "less subtle drug ref in charts" vote
Date: 2006-02-13 10:16 pm (UTC)I went down to town to get me a kick
I met this guy who was selling some shit
I said "I am broke, could you lend me a bit"
But he said:
Oh go to hell x 4
Then I went a bit further cos I felt a bit weird,
And I met this guy offering me a needle,
He said "it's for free, you don't need teh steel"
But I said:
Oh go to hell x 4
That grebt grebt feeling I needed to have,
so I went back to bloke w/ teh needle and said,
I need some stuff Right Here Right Now
unless Iiiii....
'm off to Hell x 4
Now I go to the guy with the needle each day,
and get a hundred down there each day,
Much leads to more, and old Nick wants more.....
Down in Hell x 4
