Now 23 is the BIGGEST! NOW! YET! with 39 tracks - and looking at the tracklisting you can understand why. Not because that tricky 1992-1993 bridge was a particularly fertile time for pop (in fact it looks pretty awful on this selection), but because some of the tracks have featured in these polls before. Freddie and Monserrat get a 'lympic-driven second crack of the whip; Heaven 17 return in remixed form; Simple Minds return for no reason I can see whatsoever. Meanwhile we have toytown techno, a few dead pop stars, a truly disgraceful 'tribute' to one of them, and - something I had genuinely and happily forgotten before typing this poll out - The Farm covering Don't You Want Me.
How thankful I am to look back on Now 22, which "Rhythm Is A Dancer" won by a single vote from En Vogue. CeCe P3n1ston came in third, and then SL2 and Utah Saints with scores in the mid-60s. Given the staggering greatness of SL2 and Utah Saints this brings me sadface, but there's no accounting for poptimist taste. Nick Berry and Jimmy Nail shared the dishonours, though Jimmy also had several fans. A predictably wide set of highpoints for Carter USM, with decking Phil Schofield and "Bloodsport 4 All" (TOPICAL INNIT) roughly most mentioned.

Date: 2006-02-13 01:51 pm (UTC)the Tetris track is horrible really esp. that cod-Russian accent. maybe if it wasn't for the hand Lloyd-Webber had in it it would be easier to like. prior to Dr Spin there was an ardkore track that just put the Tetris music direct over breakbeats.
