More 'heartbreak' for Drummond and Cauty as for the second Now Poll in a row they lose out by a single vote, this time to 2 Unlimited's "Get Ready For This", whose 1-point advantage also saw off the Pet Shop Boys and Salt N Pepa in an absurdly close contest. Only one person picked Ver Limited as their actual favourite, and there was a broad spread of worsts, with Python, MacLean and "Dizzy" all getting much dissing as well as a healthy level of actual-poll support.

Pop fate however seems to have smiled on the KLF, as they get two tracks on Now 21* and a frankly weak line-up going against them, packed full of second-single-syndrome, which is particularly grievous at a time when a lot of dance acts only really got one big single. Will they prevail? Let's see.

This stuff ought to have personal significance for me, as it was what was in the charts when I met my future wife, and what's more we met at a disco, so presumably this kind of stuff was played. But the only ones I can remember were "Justified And Ancient", which she thought was weird and I quite liked, and "Bohemian Rhapsody", which we both agreed you couldn't dance to (wrongly). I can't remember any of the slow dance ones.

I very nearly put the Wonder Stuff as worst and the reason why is the way they garble that line at the end of the chorus, it's always infuriated me beyond reason (before Never Loved Elvis I was a good indie boy and quite liked the Wonder Stuff, this song in particular killed them for me)

The lack of "Goodnight Girl" love on this poll upsets me. It may be the best single by a Scottish band in the early part of the 90s.

Shanice on only 55% is 1x OUTRAGE. It's easily the best thing on this. Paula Abdul and Hammer also need more love.
