Happy new year Poptimists! We begin 2010 in the same way we began 2009, with Lady Gaga at number 1.

As the charts were rather less than inspiring in 2009, I thought we might swizz stuff around for 2010. What do you think?

[Poll #1507063]

You have until 5pm today to vote in the 2009 chart polls (pssst! Go and vote for Bad Romance, dudes!) - I'll tally up the spreadsheet and post the results later this week. The 2004 polls will start up again next week (werk permitting!).

I voted "Do monthly polls of new top 40 entries" as I like the sanctity of the Top 40 format. However, I wouldn't object to expanding this to the Top 75 or even 100 (i.e. combining with the AYIPS polls that Anatol_M did in 2008). Key thing however is to try and reduce the plethora of "NOT HEARD ANY" ticks we got in 2009, which some form of delay in polling might help with.

yeah i'd expand to top 100 and go monthly and abandon 'not heard any' but that's me (tho yes i will probably be a 'not heard any/don't like any' myself more and more so my opinions aren't so relevant).

A spotify playlist would cut that down, but disadvantage acts whose record labels are a bit behind the times.

I can't get spotify at all, but that's not a reason not to use it.

I ticked "keep as is" just because that would be easiest for me to keep up with, since I've been more or less committing myself to blurb every new track. But "monthly poll of new Top 40 entries" would be my second choice (though I'd be much less likely to blurb them, and therefore less likely to listen to everything with attention, or to listen to everything period, and my guess is that people would be less likely to listen to what they hadn't heard). A Top 75 or Top 100 could be overwhelming.

But I'd think the top two considerations would be: (1) what works for Kat, and (2) what is likely to provoke the best discussion.

Lex coming back would be a big help.

Why did I tick a Coldplay track back in February?
