I never much liked the YYYs but am taking solace in how, now Karen O has done the soundtrack for the ill-advised Where The Wild Things Are film, their star is surely set to fade.

Admittedly I have not seen the film but I did read the associated Dave Eggers novel (he also co-wrote the film script) and it has really done for any optimism I might have felt towards the project. And I used to really like Dave Eggers.

I didn't realise there was an attached Eggers book (generally I'm fan). The trailer alone hooked me in, and it's been fabulously received... Maurice Sendak loves it and he's a right grumpy bastard - hang on and see!

The problem is, having read the book I can't see how the film can avoid falling into the same trap - the novel does a very good job of particularising Max, getting into his head and filling out his life. Which is precisely what you don't want, because the whole point of the original was that Max was an Everychild stand-in for each individual reader.
It presumably won't make the Wild Things themselves quite so dull, but still...
