Massive shock and horror in heat #2 as... ok never mind, Beyonce, Justin & Electric Six are all comfortably through. Evanescence and Blu/Sean whizz past the Frank Fergusons to get the last two spots.

Perhaps we'll have an upset in today's heat instead - will Outkast bear the brunt of the 2003 ubiquity tick fatigue? Let's find out!

  • You get SIX TICKS over the three bits of the poll, unless you played the investigation game on the previous heat and told us all your new favourite (and why). Put your new favourite in the box below and get an extra tick for the next heat - do this on five or more of the eight heats and get an extra nomination slot for 2004! (thx to [livejournal.com profile] credoimprobus for this suggestion)

  • The top five in each heat will go through to the next stage. Make sure you rep for your faves in the comments!

  • If you want to fill in the 'best song I only heard today' box later, change your vote (or tick too many by mistake), you can edit your votes by clicking on 'Poll #12345' then 'Fill Out Poll'.

  • You have until Friday lunchtime to vote

[Poll #1480198]

Ha, MySpace mislabeled the album tracks. "Fuck 'Em" is track five here, the one mistakenly called "Whoremonger" (and the one labeled "Fuck 'Em" is actually "Mississippi").

The chord pattern reminds me of "Mountains Of The Moon" by the Grateful Dead, of all things, which maybe becomes clearer if you hear the excellent screwed and chopped version, correctly labeled here, seventh track. Or maybe you just have to be me to hear the similarity.

I should mention that the MySpace links never work for me, they always default to some parent page or other. :( This may just be an issue (of the licensing kind, no doubt) over here, though, maybe it's fine for the uk people?

MySpace is usually one of my last resorts, simply because my DSL modem can't really handle it, so the tracks keep shuddering to a halt. Unfortunately the YouTube rip of "Fuck 'Em" is just incredibly bad. Ah, here it is on Lala, and if that doesn't work you can try Imeem, though they tend to block you for a while once you've played one track, and Lala knocks you down to thirty seconds.

Here (on YouTube) is an alternate take of the Dead's "Mountains Of The Moon."

The Lala worked, thx. :) (Amusingly, because it usually does, the Imeem didn't. Licensing, bane of the international internet music nerd!)
