Hilariously LCD Soundsystem and QOTSA have tied yet again, with 20 votes each. That leaves me to cast the deciding vote! I actually had a drunken row on Friday with [livejournal.com profile] boyofbadgers about how bad a concept for a song 'Losing My Edge' was but he rightly pointed out that I hadn't actually heard it! I shall go away and listen to both songs with an open mind and announce my decision in the comments.

  • You now only get SIX TICKS over the three bits of the poll, unless you played the investigation game on the previous heat and told us all your new favourite (and why). Put your new favourite in the box below and get an extra tick for heat #7!

  • The top five will still go through to the next stage, but now it's going to be that little bit tougher to get there. If your favourite song isn't doing so well then try and convince people in the comments as to why it's so good!

  • If you want to fill in the 'best song I only heard today' box later, change your vote (or tick too many by mistake), you can edit your votes by clicking on 'Poll #12345' then 'Fill Out Poll'.

  • You have until Friday lunchtime to vote.

[Poll #1467164]

Extra ticks this heat go to: [livejournal.com profile] skyecaptain, [livejournal.com profile] koganbot and [livejournal.com profile] jeff_worrell. See above for instructions on how to go back and fill in the 'new favourite' question later on, if you want to do your ticks RIGHT NOW.

A ridiculously difficult round! There are about 5 of my (last minute, mostly indie) nominations in there and I voted for precisely none of them.

I specifically would like to rep for "Something" by Lasgo. Because it's awesome.

I had 9 on first run through, so would have to agree. Sorry, Avril, Felix and the Sugababes, although looks like none of them would really be needing my vote anyway.

Also, yes, 'Something' is my favourite song in this heat.

can't be arsed ticking sugababes

Shoot the dog?? What?! I judge that you just made that up to see if we were paying attention.

REALLY, the only song that should get through is SHE FOOKIN' 'ATES ME but sadly there are another four obvious ticks. The 6th is completely up in the air!

Haven't ticked any from the first section yet so if anyone can convince me of the merits of those I am more likely to ticky...

If this was the Soulwax remix that has that B-52s drumbeat added to the mix, I would have ticked.

See, this is why I loved indie the first half of the decade: because it still sounded like this. Also, one of my favourite videos of the year at the time (still love it, too)!

And not indie at all: Lasgo!

I am GREATLY amused that if the poll ended now the Mountain Goats would go through.

Also I'm interested in what you think about 'Losing My Edge', Kat - I can't think of many other songs where "what it's about, maan" so completely ignores what it sounds like.

Out of interest, why this MG song in particular? I haven't listened to Tallahassee for about 4 years - I should give it another go - but I vaguely recall 'Southwood Plantation Road' was my favourite song on there.

My 2 Many DJs story

Brussels 2002, some festival or other. Arthur Baker has the headline DJ set. The Dewaele brothers are on immediately before. They drop "Smells Like Booty". The look on Baker's face (who was setting up on stage) said everything you needed to know: "Oh shit! I have just been rendered totally pointless tonight". And indeed his set was lame by comparison.

French hip hop from the Golden Age of same. This was nominated more as a place holder for lots of other great tracks (as Saian Supa Crew were in 2001) - and because it's on youtube - but I really like this nonetheless. Bit of an anthem, actually.

Haven't checked the vid or audio quality. Hope they're OK.

I'm going to rep for Aaliyah not by linking to the actual single, but to Kulture's excellent refix from last year, a highlight of his Generation Bass set (check @ 6:10 for it). Because it's ALL about that wonderful, sensuous vocal, which the refix really brings out.

(Okay and here's the original version as well; I didn't rate it when I first heard the album, but I can say now that I was WRONG.)
