Heidi showed everyone who was boss in heat #3, with the Sugababes storming ahead of Pink, the White Stripes, No Doubt and Clipse.

Time for Heat #4, aka HEAT OF DEATH. Seriously dudes, it's a Double Bedingfield in there! Hold onto your hats...

  • You now only get SIX TICKS over the three bits of the poll. Oh stop whining, it'll make for a more interesting top 40 at the end.

  • The top five will still go through to the next stage, but now it's going to be that little bit tougher to get there. If your favourite song isn't doing so well then try and convince people in the comments as to why it's so good!

  • If you want to change your vote (or tick too many by mistake), you can edit your votes by clicking on 'Poll #12345' then 'Fill Out Poll'.

  • You have until Tuesday lunchtime to vote.

[Poll #1462364]

Q for the comments box: What's the best song up there that you hadn't heard before today? After some confusion last week, you will now get an extra tick for the next heat (i.e. seven ticks for heat 5) if you tell us WHY you like it.

Gah this was HARSH in the end -- way too many tickables among the previously unheards! The winner in the stakes ended up being the DJ Marky & XRS; I mean, I'm partial towards d&b as it is, but the thing that won me over was its warm spring noon brightness (reminiscent of a lot of idm & folktronica I love, I guess!) Also ticked the X-Press 2* on similar grounds, although technically that one wasn't new new since I'd dug it up when going through the UK top 40 archives a couple months back.

Other things I enjoyed a lot but didn't have room to tick: the Lil Jon, sort of obviously (and ha ha ha the Smack My Bitch Up, crunk style video!); the Ja Rule (came REALLY close to getting my last tick instead of X-Press 2); and in a dark horse move, the Hundred Reasons and LeAnn Rimes.

*) also I am sort of X-Press 2-partial on account of them being responsible for one of my favourite remixes of the decade, <3

PS #1: Didn't have time to comment before the heat closed, but my heat #3 previously-unheard favourite was hands down the Snoop, which I CANNOT BELIEVE I was the only one to tick. Just wanted that made public! :) Mind this judgement came with half the tracks still unheard, as the last two heats were the first ones ever where I didn't youtube the entire list (time constraints, sudden attacks of life, etc).

PS #2: I feel really awful for dear Kylie, who I keep failing to tick despite how much I love Fever. :( Can't Get You Out of My Head is the only Fever-era one I've ticked so far!

(PS #3: I would much rather x100 have the old-rule extra nomination slot than an extra tick!)
