Heidi showed everyone who was boss in heat #3, with the Sugababes storming ahead of Pink, the White Stripes, No Doubt and Clipse.

Time for Heat #4, aka HEAT OF DEATH. Seriously dudes, it's a Double Bedingfield in there! Hold onto your hats...

  • You now only get SIX TICKS over the three bits of the poll. Oh stop whining, it'll make for a more interesting top 40 at the end.

  • The top five will still go through to the next stage, but now it's going to be that little bit tougher to get there. If your favourite song isn't doing so well then try and convince people in the comments as to why it's so good!

  • If you want to change your vote (or tick too many by mistake), you can edit your votes by clicking on 'Poll #12345' then 'Fill Out Poll'.

  • You have until Tuesday lunchtime to vote.

[Poll #1462364]

Q for the comments box: What's the best song up there that you hadn't heard before today? After some confusion last week, you will now get an extra tick for the next heat (i.e. seven ticks for heat 5) if you tell us WHY you like it.

This one's much less a 'heat of death' than the last one, for me.

I'm guessing Nelly will sail through, which also makes things a little easier. A shame to not be able to tick Kylie or Conway, but them's the breaks.

Hey Kat, is YouTube still blocking Brits from watching sponsored videos, as part of its dispute with you know who?

In any event here's the (sponsored) link to the video for Lil Jon's "I Don't Give A."

And here the song is unsponsored and letting us in on what Jon doesn't give:

The Delgados I can understand, because I know who's nominating them - I'm more surprised that anyone gives enough of a fvck about the PSBs at this point to nominate two songs!

From: [identity profile] freakytigger.livejournal.com
I don't think I nominated it but I almost ticked "I Get Along" - and it was almost in my Top 200 Records of the etc etc before I axed it for being 2/3 rubbish. I intend to write something about it sometime soon though.

Two things people need to hear if they haven't:

Tim Deluxe - the horns! the 'lalalalala's! Still every bit as vivid and exhilirating as it was back then. (Nb video DEF NOT SFW.)

Kate Ryan - I still hold this is the best bosh cover EVER RECORDED, <3.

Also anyone not voting for Justin is RONG. (Pls see Kat's comment re: indie snob barricades up above!)

I should tick "Libertine" out of Belgian solidarity really, since I was living there at the time. (Plus it is a good track.)

Disclaimer: it got edged out of my votes, and it will likely get edged out of your 6 too (it'd be in if I had 10). But anyhow, this is Lessons Learned From Rocky I to Rocky III, and I'm quite fond of it.

Happy to swap around and horsetrade votes on this heat - I've already felt like I've sold my soul just cutting down my initial 10.

As I write this, Nickelback is beating Trina 2-0. (Including that I ticked Nickelback but not Trina, tho I've never heard this particular Trina song). I agree that this is a very tough heat by the way. Ultimately I decided to untick The Rapture and No Doubt, but I don't feel good about it.

Turns out I had heard this plenty, of course; loveman rap that cheerfully dispenses with foreplay, comes on as both antiromance and romance. (Don't know yet if I'll have the votes for this.)

In the search for songs I'd not heard before, I mainly found songs I had heard before but forgotten about. They were:
Cam'ron - excellent, didn't know this was Cam'ron, not quite a tick tho
Tim Deluxe - ticked. V good.
Milky - (Milky?!) This was a great little tune. Cute. Not quite ticked yet but may yet do so.

Unfortunately of the ones I hadn't heard, I didn't really like any so can't play that game.

I am very disheartened with the way this heat has progressed. The top 5 at present are Justin, The Streets, Nelly, J-Lo and The Rapture. None of these were in my Top 6, although Justin was my #7, and narrowly missed out.

For the record, my votes went to Holly V, Pink, Kylie, Ms Dynamite, Kosheen (how on earth am I the only vote for this?), and Cam'ron

Jebus, and I've just seen that Nickelback has 2 votes. What weird alternate Poptimist universe has Nickelback scoring more votes than Kosheen? Ugh.

I was reminded that I'd schemed to be a Big Cheating Cheater and also link to REMIXES, as a side course of sorts, because damn did that single have some well amazing remixes on it:

SATOSHI TOMIIE, <3 <3 <3 (epic atmospheric travelogue trance!)
Tiësto (propulsive and bassy!)
Bent (cute as buttons!)

Allowing these versions to sway yr vote would probably not be quite in spirit with these polls, but I'm just saying. Ahem.

Nickelback "How You Remind Me"

From: [identity profile] meserach.livejournal.com
I'm not really surprised that this is getting shot down in flames now, given how consensus opinion toward the band has progressed ever since.... but this was so huge at the time, both in general and, it has to be said, for me; dancing in a disco at genius camp age sixteen with the girl who was, that evening, to be my first kiss...

I have to tick this, I just do. But I understand why others don't.

(also secretly I actually kinda like "Rock Star" but shhh)

Gah this was HARSH in the end -- way too many tickables among the previously unheards! The winner in the stakes ended up being the DJ Marky & XRS; I mean, I'm partial towards d&b as it is, but the thing that won me over was its warm spring noon brightness (reminiscent of a lot of idm & folktronica I love, I guess!) Also ticked the X-Press 2* on similar grounds, although technically that one wasn't new new since I'd dug it up when going through the UK top 40 archives a couple months back.

Other things I enjoyed a lot but didn't have room to tick: the Lil Jon, sort of obviously (and ha ha ha the Smack My Bitch Up, crunk style video!); the Ja Rule (came REALLY close to getting my last tick instead of X-Press 2); and in a dark horse move, the Hundred Reasons and LeAnn Rimes.

*) also I am sort of X-Press 2-partial on account of them being responsible for one of my favourite remixes of the decade, <3

PS #1: Didn't have time to comment before the heat closed, but my heat #3 previously-unheard favourite was hands down the Snoop, which I CANNOT BELIEVE I was the only one to tick. Just wanted that made public! :) Mind this judgement came with half the tracks still unheard, as the last two heats were the first ones ever where I didn't youtube the entire list (time constraints, sudden attacks of life, etc).

PS #2: I feel really awful for dear Kylie, who I keep failing to tick despite how much I love Fever. :( Can't Get You Out of My Head is the only Fever-era one I've ticked so far!

(PS #3: I would much rather x100 have the old-rule extra nomination slot than an extra tick!)
